Dinner in Glasgow.

In the car park at the local station a van belonging to a company that does outdoor adventures. Angus is interested to see that axe throwing is one of the options.

Including a change in Dundee it takes exactly two hours, door to door, to get to Glasgow by train . We stay in a hotel a three minute walk from the station.

The hotel has many design features but not ones that have necessarily been fully  thought through. Putting the bath in a ground floor window is one of them.  The bedroom walls are painted a very dark grey. This Venice Beach feature works in sunny climes. It works less well in northerly latitudes where the layered clouds block out the light.

In the lobby of a nearby ( and very trendy hotel ) a dog sculpture that elicits an ' We need one of these ' from both of us. When we're next in Glasgow we shall stay here.

We've come to try out an Indian restaurant. 'The Font' chooses wisely and is impressed . Angus orders at random and thinks the food is on the right side of 'good'.

Glasgow is a town of large , now redundant, office buildings. These are being converted into retail/residential use. As a consequence property rental prices are extremely competitive. In the restaurant we're visiting there's a huge amount of space between the tables. In Edinburgh they'd be cramming them in to cover their costs.

I adore the dog sculpture and need to know the name of that Indian restaurant!
I'm hoping the axe throwing takes place well away from anywhere that Nobby and I might venture...
Cheers, Gail.

The dog sculpture is so realistic, before I read your comments I thought it was a live dog! The Indian restaurant looks inviting and although not a fan of Indian cuisine, the menu looks interesting.
Not sure I'd consider axe throwing as a adventure - more of a liability given my sense of direction!

There's a newly opened restaurant nearby called the Ale and Axe Taphouse sporting the motto; Eat,Drink,Throw. I'm inclined to think this might be an ill advised activity for those consuming adult beverages. Stranger still to imagine why anyone actually wants to throw an axe...unless you're a medieval Viking.

Love the lobby dog statue. Very realistic.

Ahh... could this be the place that took over the premises from the Russian Cafe? To be honest, so many restaurants/bars/cafes use hanging garden decor these days that it's hard to tell them apart. YAM xx

Converting office space to residential is a major trend, lots of empty office space around the world.

I can understand your reaction to that dog sculpture - reminds me of Sophie on the beach. The restaurant looks very inviting, the hotel less so - I can't quite understand the current fixation on grey decor.

I'm thinking perhaps a Puli just back from an inexperienced groomer? But adorable nevertheless.

The lamb dishes on the menu have me salivating. Is Scottish lamb on a par with French lamb from the Drome region, I wonder?

I too want the dog sculpture; any update on the Cabbage situation?

The dog in the hotel lobby reminded me of sculptures by DD Larue. I saw one of her "dog in a VW car window" sculptures at the Sculptureum, Matakana, Auckland, NZ. Here is a link to some of DD's work, sold in the US. Have a look at her dogs too, especially the dog in a crosswind. DD's scultures are made of papermache, but I have a NZ clay artist friend who is going to try making her dogs in glazed clay, and has bought an old car door, from a car wrecker, to ondeday go on her fence as be a feature for her new garden. http://www.ddlarue.com/vw-doors/#9

There was a bunch of leftover paint and they just threw them all together and the world's decor is now grey. Which, to me, couldn't be any worse.
