Highland observers.

For years and years we've had a subscription to The Atlantic. This morning the BBC news broadcast informs us that someone thinks ' It's a magazine that's going out of business '.  Greenland also makes it into the headlines.

A glorious morning. On our walk two cautious Highland youngsters wander across the village green to say hello.

Some of their brothers and sisters are less keen on talking to humans and decide to give us a wide berth. There is a mad rush to the far end of the paddock. What different personalities !

The arrival of the sun is good news for the local bar owners. At lunchtime yesterday the pavement of the pub by the fountain was packed with teenagers enjoying a quick pint. When we passed three hours later the same youngsters were still there basking in  the sunshine, enjoying the conviviality and holding onto the belief that exams are months away.

In a souvenir shop window a strange stainless steel bowl being held by a reindeer in a bow tie. What possible purpose could it have ?  We are flummoxed. The world of the souvenir shop is rich and varied ... and impractical.

In the next village along the coast folks are enjoying a 'wee blether' in the sunshine. 15 degrees forecast for later today.

You should be warned you are aggravating my OCD (obsesseive coo disorder) with those Heilan' photies!!!

Regarding the stag - that's a bit of a thing, apparently, "offering a versatile serving and presentation piece, suitable for use as a punch bowl, wine cooler, fruit bowl, or even for serving ice". Or maybe a key holder on hall table? YAM xx

I just subscribed to The Atlantic a few years ago, so it seems they somehow still have both old and new subscribers. We've been having an argument here whether it is OK to laugh about the Goldberg article. My husband thinks it is too serious a matter, but I can't quite resist a chuckle. The article about translators was interesting. It really is remarkable how machine translation has improved - it is often a lifesaver for us. On the other hand, I would think it would be harder to replace the interpreters, as that's almost an art form.

Pleased to see the Highland cattle. We have some in local heathland.
I've just sent a Highland cow soft toy to my newly-born great-granddaughter.

The photo of the Highland youngsters is adorable. Also
I think everyone (I for one) needs a reindeer with a tie serving bowl. I can see after dinner mints being proudly displayed. Unfortunately Bolivia is not high on my bucket list.

Awww, those Highland cow photos brought a big smile to start the day. They brought back memories of being at my grandparents' farm and standing by the fence, waiting for a cow or two to come up to get a nose scratch.

If The Atlantic is "going out of business" at least it's going in style with Trump's National Security Advisor sharing war plans with it.

I would have it be a key/cell phone/wallet catch all near the front door. I like the piece. Cheers.

I like a publication that shines a spotlight on the upper echelons of a government that exemplifies the Peter Principle. I am seriously thinking about subscribing to The Atlantic as a replacement for the disappointing Washington Post whose banner should read “Democracy dies in the light of day”.

I would not give much credence to the article about AI because: 1) Fox News, 2) Texas, 3) Republicans' determination to decimate the public school system because an uneducated voter is the bees knees.

"The (fill in the name of a publication or news organization here) is a failing business" is the standard answer from that tower of ignorance. Ahem, The Atlantic has been in business since 1857, I'll see myself out.......
