Getting the most out of the day.

Puppy knows exactly how to get the most out of these shortening autumn days. She gets up at six thirty, pushes the garden gate open and positions herself at the top of the barley field. There she waits for 1) a  villager out walking their dog 2) her elder sister or 3) the inhabitants of The Last Wee House Before Denmark. She then tags along for a walk and a chat or, if it's her sister, engages in some noisy horse play.

When bored ( which is a low threshold )  she chases the crows or clambers up onto a haystack to look for something more exciting to do. This morning she spies a large hare and is soon in hot pursuit. The hare has little to fear as Puppy's directional honing skills need to be worked on tend to get lost in the start of day enthusiasm.

The farmers wife has found the satellite tracker to be a marvel. Puppy has not made it onto the 5 star hotels golf course since it was attached to her collar. This makes life for everyone in the village much easier.

The local paper has a feature on the upcoming silage competition. We are left to ponder the news that  'finalists in the competition will be asked to provide fresh silage samples for live judging'.

This morning there's a horse drawn ploughing competition in the field by the right angled turn in the road. The car park already filing up with young fathers bringing  their toddlers to see the horses. We wave at our Canadian and New Zealand neighbours who seem to have taken to small village life with remarkable ease. Rural Scotland is settling into its unhurried late autumn routines. The harvest festival dinner is the next highlight in our social calendar.

What a lovely portrait of Puppy in her element... and thank you so much for bringing Chinneck's work to my attention: wow! I love it!!! As for silage making - it's an art to get it just right, so all those intense faces tell the story! YAM xx

So nice to see Puppy again and I'm glad to know the tracker is worker - although maybe the groundskeepers at the golf course are missing her?

Wish I was there.

As usual all the links provide insight into areas that need further exploration. I am very familiar with the Frederick Douglass story since his birthplace is just a few miles from where I live. It was nice to catch up with puppy again, free spirit that she is.

What a lovely perspective on a world that looks forward to sileage and ploughing competitions and especially the daily routine of a little dog whose heart overflows with the joy of life.

I appreciate all the information you pass our way. The handwriting article was fascinating! And, puppy’s adventures are a joy to this US citizen who needs distractions from the news!
