Starbucks is busy. 'Revision' week is over and the students are back in town. A stream of library bound young women in sensible clothing stop to pick up their orders. Interestingly, male students are conspicuous by their total absence - perhaps their circadian rhythms are still adjusting to the weekends time change ? The local dog owners start showing up around seven.
So far the hills to the North of the bay remain snow free. It can only be a matter of time before the winter frosts blanket them. This morning the car lets out an annoying bleep to let us know that it's 4 degrees and 'roads could be slippery '. It's coming up to a year since we bought the little BMW and we've run up 15,000 miles. This is exactly the same mileage we did on each of the cars in France so I guess you could say we've managed a 50% reduction in our road use. We now recognize that the little car is ideal for parking but we could have happily gone for the next size up. The rear seats in this are very small which, on anything but the briefest of journeys, effectively makes it a two seater.

....15k in a year? I've been in The Grey for two and a half and we're only at 8600 miles, after all our touring about...And yes, up here at Banchory, it was sleeting yesterday. Love the photo of the WFT. Great piece of Rachmaninov to get the blood stirred! YAM xx
Why do I feel skeptical about those plans for a new city in California? Meanwhile, bless Ai Wei Wei. It's hard to get it right with cars for some reason. We realized that the VW Golf R we bought when we moved here is just too rough a car for the bumpy winding roads where we live. So we have just ordered a new car, a rechargeable hybrid Audi that promises to be a little tamer while hopefully still fun. It can actually park itself, which I didn't believe until I tried it. This is the first new car we've ever purchased. Perhaps it is my own Presbyterian upbringing, but we have always bought demos or other lightly-used but heavily discounted cars. Delivery won't happy until March (or so).
"happen" (although hopefully we will be happy)
Would your back seat have room for a PON?
The back seat would but the baggage area wouldn't !
It snowed on Mt Washington this weekend and numerous hikers needed rescue due to their unpreparedness. They were dressed for summer.
We have had several roof frosts and today was the first ground frost. Snow tires are going on Thursday. North shore of Lake Ontario is sunny and blue sky, temperature 1C.
The fresh fish always looks so good.
How lovely to see a wire-hairrd foxie om your blog. My boys on high would be pleased.
I watched The Reluctant Traveler last night on Apple TV. Eugene Levy spent some time touring Windsor Castle with Prince William.
During a stop at a pup, (away from the castle) William shared with Eugene that when he was in school at St Andrews there were 45 pubs in town. The young men would try to hit all 45 in one night! He said he never made it that far :)
In terms of the density of hostelries to the overall population St Andrews is in a league all of its own . Hardly surprising when you consider that it's cold and remote and has a population of 10,000 students determined to enjoy life.
I didn’t even notice “happy”, my brain totally filled in “happen”. Was it autocorrect being “helpful”?
