Is everything alright ?
Angus gets up to let the PONS out of the front door. They appear in the kitchen 20 minutes later. It's apparent that Sophie has been digging. Why did I ever think that a girl dog would somehow be more decorous than a boy dog ?
In the little county town the police are out in force. Traffic moved away from the the side of the market hall and redirected through the car park. Chaos develops when an elderly lady in a Ford ignores the frantic signals of the traffic police and follows the route she always takes. A group of retired gentlemen stand and observe.
The cause of the dislocation soon apparent. A 4x4 has had a puncture. The bearded driver doesn't have a spare. '' You should always have a spare " says one of the retirees somewhat unhelpfully. A tow truck is called. Bob and his master watch as the 4x4 is winched up and driven away. The youngish policeman informs us that the Police Municipale have been issued with guns for the duration of the State of Emergency. On the basis of his traffic management skills Angus is not reassured.
Late at night Bob wanders up into the drawing room and puts his chin on Angus's knee. Sophie is a fiercely independent creature. Bob isn't. Before he settles down for the night he wants to know that everything's alright. A mano a mano and a tickle and he's satisfied that all is well. What different characters the two of them are.

The chin on the knee (or foot) can be such a touching gesture. One of Bertie's most endearing traits is the way he often rests one part of his body gently against me, not in a demanding "I want attention" way, but more, I think, a gesture combining affection, reassurance and companionship.
Cheers, Gail.
Oh Sophie, we think it's the wrong season for truffles, so is there something obnoxious that you can't quite reach? We dread to think ! We've said it before, and we'll say it again, what a sterling fellow Bob is - his presence is so reassuring.
Our girls like to lean against us too, and the heavier one makes a point of sitting on our feet ! It's all about letting us know that they are there, and keeping an eye on us, and possibly just in case we have any sausages about our person....
A muddy chin indicates time well spent....Kitty would vouch for that too.
Awww Sophie, we love your muddy face and Mr Bob - we love your sad face. You two are awesome!!
We have 2 sons and a daughter. Boys are much easier.
Our three year old white Goldendoodle, Lola, can be a tomboy as well and we wouldn't have it any other way. Loves to dig and chase squirrels and she's frequently filthy but loves kids and other dogs so much that the neighbors invite her to BBQs to keep the kids occupied and happy. Your darling Sophie's antics reminds me of her...especially the diva moments. Hugs to all including your sweet oaf. PS: Mssr Hollande spoke in DC yesterday, a good man & fine leader says this American. Pam in NH
Hmmmmmm ... Could it be, Sophie hides the toys in the hedge, so Bob can find them at a later date? What a thoughtful sister! It is hard to dig and hide, and remain clean. Bob's good night ritual with you is most endearing.
You are right about personalities and differences, even with the same breed of dog -- And if I'm ever going to have an issue with the dogs, history has shown that it's more likely to be between "the girls" unless of course someone decides to not give Todd the respect he feels he deserves. The gentle nose poke always gets me too!!!
White furniture with dogs! You and The Font are brave souls!
Even with the Sophie's muddy chops, both PONs have a wonderful heart melting look.
Their personalities so resemble my duo. Who knew that girls were so independent and mischievous?
Guns in the hands of those that don't routinely handle or shoot them! Terribly frightening, that. Sort of hope they didn't issue them amo.
I recall a time when Sophie was thought to be the shy or timid one.
I would have loved for Merlin to grow up with a sibling. Two Pons must be such fun, but exhausting I imagine!
x
Exhausting but they do create excitement for each other so there's no boredom or separation anxiety.
She certainly grew out of the shy and retiring phase.
We've only had male PONs before so the arrival of the PON princess is an eye opener !
Some rooms are ( supposedly ) out of bounds as is the furniture.
It's difficult not to smile when you see a PON.
Bob is a perfect dog. His sister is a character.
Generations of male PONs have been through the evening mano a mano. Sophie can't see the point of it.
Ah ! The diva moments.
Until they discover motorbikes.
A lot of their time at the moment is 'well spent'.
Don't be fooled by the sad face. It's a mask for 100% proof mischief.
Or if you're a sheepdog making sure your herd doesn't wander.
Don't forget the '' I know it's raining but do you fancy a walk " chin on the knee moment.
