Learning the hard way.

Sophie learns the hard way that overly ripe pears are sticky and can matt your hair.

The sticky juice also 'attracts' loose leaves .

Nothing that a warm flannel and a quick run through with a brush  won't cure.

Fresh dates in the greengrocers and a warm welcome, a bowl of water and a wholemeal biscuit at the cafe on the market square. Tails wag wildly.

Today the rugby season starts again. Sophie does not get taken to rugby matches. She can find the cheering and shouting alarming. Sophie, rugby and 'diva' moments are best avoided.

Amazing fact for the day : http://metrocosm.com/homicides-brazil-vs-world/

At least the sticky pears do not seem to have produce problems 'downstream'?
Cheers!
Gail.
PS I note that the USA easily beats Brazil and Russia in terms of homicide rate, according to the raw data attached to the link you provided, and this does not fit with the numbers quoted in the article. But also that in the raw data the figures come from different years, the figure for absolute number of homicides in the USA in that table looks wrong and not all values are from the same year or the same source. (Statistics always bring out my inner nerd...)

Gail beat me to it - am a bit of a stats nerd also!!! Having done my fair share of them in the past, have also had my share of 'debates' on how they are worked. Not to diminish the fact that there are some very risky places to live, no doubt about it. Now Mlle Sophie, rotten pears are one thing - no touching those fresh dates now! The rugby has been going already up here... big match last night. YAM xx

No matter what the nerdy statistics show, there are certainly a shocking number of murders in the US. Of course, there's a chance the numbers are more accurately compiled here than in Brazil or Russia.
I've seen dates hanging in clusters from palm trees but had no idea they were eaten at that stage. Googling reveals that they are rather like a crisp pear or apple.

Sophie, those sticky whiskers are a bit of a let down for your adoring public !

A girl always runs the risk of embarrassing herself if her appetite is too hearty.

We could have used Sophie at our house - Our pear tree was loaded with pears this year, and many went to waste because there was no canine diva or otherwise (like Josh) to scarf them down.

And the chart, while the colors are quite striking, is hard to read with such tiny type. ::grump::
I wonder if the numbers for Brazil are distributed evenly across the population, or if there are more murders among the very poor.

What are the sculptures (?) behind Sophie in the third picture? It looks like chickens, but immobile ones, next to what might be a wookie. Is the village crafts fair branching out?

They are two pottery chickens from Oathlaw pottery in Kincardineshire - bought for a garden in Scotland and subsequently dragged across Europe with us. After generations of PONS They are now looking very chipped and cracked !
