Forty yards

At seven minutes past midnight all hell breaks loose. A storm cell has barged down from the mountains and centred itself directly over The Rickety Old Farmhouse. Angus is woken by  a flash of lightning followed by a floor shaking peel of thunder. Some roof tiles can be heard crashing on the ground. The view out of the window a curtain of hail - a total white out. The pandemonium lasts for exactly 13 minutes before it growls slowly away to wreak havoc elsewhere.

Annoyingly 'The Font' and the PONs are completely unperturbed by the maelstrom. Angus's trip downstairs in the pitch dark ( the power has gone off )  to find a flashlight and collect buckets to catch the rain coming through the hallway ceiling undertaken alone. Bob opens one eye briefly but decides that his warm bed is the right place to be in a storm. Sophie and 'The Font' don't even stir. This morning 'The Font' looks at the buckets on the floor and asks if it's been raining. Angus thinks of replying that he's been up through the night arranging the buckets as installation art - but doesn't.

We're early at the bakers. No croissants yet, they're still in the oven. This is the third time this has happened. Angus has a coffee while he waits. The PONs share a bowl of water and have some grass seeds picked out of their fur. How can any dog get covered in grass seeds in the forty yards between the concrete car park and the bakers terrace ?

We fill up with petrol because the farmers have started to block the refineries in protest over low milk prices.

And the Chinese Peoples Daily compares the meetings of these two alliances. No guessing which one they think has been friendlier : https://twitter.com/PDChina/status/1005713165504557056

Too bad about the disturbed night. We could do with the rain in Aberdeen. (A statement that those of us who live in Scotland rarely get to make...)

How infuriating for you that you were the only one awake to witness the storm, Angus. A good job that you were, because the ROF would have been awash by morning !
Grass seeds make an interesting addition to the breakfast diet. Still the start to a best day ever?

Good luck getting the roof tiles replaced!

Thank goodness for Angus. The ROF could have been flooded without his installations and The Font would have had other things to say then... YAM xx

How fortunate to be such a sound sleeper that one is not awakened by such a storm. Amazing too that the PONs are not upset by the thunder and lightening...different story at our house with a dog who's terrified of storms.

I've been thinking that you must be fielding many phone calls from men in dark suits these days.

Men in dark suits and , more worryingly, former colleagues who think it would be a good time for me to consider coming back to work in London. Now that's as good a summary of where we are as anything. EU in turmoil, Britain self harming, Japan isolated, America divided and Beijing smiling.

On the surface and based solely on the pictures linked, it appears that the summit involving the Chinese was a good bit more harmonious.
Pretty sure it was conducted at a more adult level. There are embarrassing international incidents, and then there are embarrassing international incidents.

Thank you for recognizing my sefless valour and devotion !

Oh to be a heavy sleeper. Although how anyone can sleep through a lightning storm directly overhead with hail coming down the chimneys escapes me.

Thank you for the Vimeo link. Have a feeling we'll all be summited out by mid-week !

You're right. It's not a good day when a G7 summit ends up badly and an authoritarian meeting is all smiles.

Don't worry. The rain will come.
