The new art work.
A new art work has been installed on the ramparts of the neighbouring village. A large yellow polo mint aligned with nothing in particular. Presumably paid for by some government department in Toulouse tasked with providing cheerful culture for the masses. A touch of Parisian chic in the provinces. What must the villagers make of it ? It's too high for Bob to christen. Sophie is head down and pursuing a malodorous scent so doesn't even notice the new arrival.
Maybe we'll be the next village to get a sculpture ?

Imagine the work that went into conceiving that form.
It probably needed a committee, a few consultants and a heck of a lot of money to decide on the porthole.

... I like it. My eye is naturally drawn to what it frames. It's an eye-funnel!!! ...aur Bole So Nihal!…Sat Sri Akal! (jaikara - victory cry) YAM xx
Yes, I like the sculpture, just the right color. Let's hope no one hits it with graffiti. I like the young Sikh too with his beard and waxed mustache. I guess it would be difficult to wear a bearskin with its metal chin strap unless one is clean shaven.
I rather like the circular structure, sculpture, whatever. "Eye-funnel" is right -- it focuses on the land, which is what's important there.
It makes me think of Andy Goldsworthy's work, and I am particularly fond of the Striding Arches.
Perhaps the furry two would take note if a new sculpture appeared in your village in the form of a fire hydrant?
Bob would take an interest in a fire hydrant - possibly four or five times a day or as frequently as he passes it.
Not wishing to pour cold water on the complimentary comments about the art installation in the next village, but I have something similar. It's painted orange, and has three castors equilaterally situated within the solid part of the ring. It was actually used to move 90 litre gas bottles around in the days when I used them ! I wonder if that was where the artist originally "conceived" his idea?
Perhaps you could lift Bob up and allow him to christen it next time you're passing....
The art work reminds of the ‘ Portal to Big Sur ‘ made from wood, in California.
We tried to get to Big Sur last year but had to make do with Carmel as the road had collapsed. There is a wonderful Arts and Crafts hotel there which has been acquired by Hyatt and was entirely taken over by folks in shiny shell suits with a $100 free bar credit in return for listening to a presentation on time shares. Perhaps we'll get there next year to see Portal to Big Sur.
You could sell it for $50,000 to our local Arts Council.
I have a friend with a second home in Carmel, and apparently I was there visiting her at about the same time last year as you were there (soon after the collapse) - small world :) I really like the art piece, too - a lot!
