A sleep ... and a snore.

In the Highlands it's a warm 21 degrees . Down here we're enveloped by coastal cloud and it's a bracing 11.

The dashcam saga takes another turn. The dealer phones to say there's been a mistake. The garage only fit  dashcams they've supplied and can't fit the one I've ordered. When I ask them to fit a Volvo one ( the car is going in for its first service next week ) the man in the service department  goes on to say that the manufacturer is changing supplier and nothing is available. They don't know the cost and don't know when the replacement product will be in stock. ' Maybe July. Maybe August ' says the maintenance guy.  I bite my tongue.

The electricians arrive. They do everything they've promised apart from replacing the thermostat on the boiler. This will require another visit. In the evening they discover their van has a flat battery. I have to drive one of them home to a fishing village down the coast to get a battery charger.

None of this bothers Sophie. This morning she takes it upon herself to patrol the entire length of the beach. What she's guarding against only the PONette knows. Sea foxes ?

Last weeks reading. A mixed bunch. Not sure I'd recommend any but if I had to then 'The Road' and 'Red Memory' might make the cut. The bookstore has a constant flow of authors nights. Smaller gatherings are held in the bookstore, larger ones in the high gothic and underutilized Episcopal church.

After her walk on the beach, a detour to the book seller and a visit to the Jaffa Cake Cafe  Sophie returns home for a well deserved sleep. We're not worried about her but she's a lady who has reached a certain age and is now sleeping more than she used to. There again she's not the only one to enjoy an unscheduled nap.... and a snore.

It must be embarrassing for an electrician to have to ask for help getting his battery charged!
Please tell Sophie that frequent naps are the privilege of a 'not as young as she used to be' family diva.

It looks as though your dashcam is to be an on-going saga!
Lovely photos of Sophie on the deserted beach. It looks a long way from everywhere - no wonder she needed a restorative nap later!

Yes a very good read about Westminster Abby however the paragraph, At 73, on the death of his mother, Charles became the oldest person to accede to the British throne. He was a child when he saw her crowned. Now it is his turn. This coronation will take place in a very different nation from 1953. Then: a young woman becoming queen in an atmosphere of postwar renewal and optimism. Now: an old man inheriting a kingdom that feels disunited, weary and worn, its gilding coming off, stands out as making a statement out of keeping with most of the article, if I can remember it I will quote it if ever the occasion arises and feel pleased with myself.

It's a lovely photograph of Sophie striding purposefully across the sand.
All dogs sleep when there's nothing interesting to entertain them.

The article on Westminster Abbey was most interesting, the life that's not seen yet so essential.

I am once again glad we did not buy a Volvo. Hopefully our second attempt to pick up our new used Peugeot tomorrow will go better than last week's.

Sophie knows all of the threats to her flock, threats we can not see, hear, feel, smell.

That first photo puts Sophie where she belongs: at the center of all things!

Maybe a road/ferry trip to Volvo in Sweden will be needed to get dashcam installed. Thank you for posting the Smithsonian article link, I really enjoyed reading it.
