Out of hibernation.

Cock pheasants, partridge, a gaggle of geese and half a dozen deer watch us as we head off for our six am tour of the village. Sophie finds the remains of a puddle to drink from. Why drink fresh water from a stainless steel bowl when you can slurp week old puddle water ?

By the time we make it down onto the beach the sun is up. Runners out in force this morning. Twenty of them, maybe twenty five, strung out along the two miles of sand. The warm(ish) weather seems to have brought the students out of hibernation. The  forecast says another cloudless day lies ahead. By eight the golf courses will be busy. There's already a small crowd of avid golfers waiting by the Old Course ticket pavillion in the hope there's been a cancellation. There's an earnestness to this mornings crowd that tells me they're German - another clue is that their golf 'slacks' have creases in them as sharp as any razor. Those that are unlucky or don't have tee off times will head off to the Jubilee , the Eden or the New or failing that one of the courses along the coast.

On our way to the 'Good Coffee Cafe' we run into a local resident who is keen to meet Sophie. Sophie is altogether less keen on meeting the local resident. She emits a brief shriek that makes it quite clear that she is a 'diva' and he an 'oaf '. This does nothing to deter the feisty wee fellow who is keen to follow her.

At the 'Good Coffee Cafe' an extremely large hound is waiting with his master for a coffee. Angus decides that it would be prudent to change plans. We head off to the 'Jaffa Cake Cafe'. The chances of Sophie queueing silently alongside a large hound are close to zero.

It's the unexpected additives that make mucky puddle drinking so attractive.
That's some hound, I'm glad Sophie didn't "engage" with him. Even worse still - she might have been banned from the good coffee café.

This morning Nobby's sympathies lie with the 'oaf'.

I didn't realise Sophie was such a snob.

I wonder how she would react if I tried to visit, I will have to remember the bring pastries.

Sophie's distinctive tastes in water remind me of my big half Pyrenees. He so loved puddle water and he slurped every puddle with such joy! Carpe diem.

Sophie? You'd snub a westie? Really?

Dog encounters are so interesting. Today, Charlie had his first friendly interaction with a Jack Russell, accompanied by another terrier friend, both off-leash. We had a number of Jack Russells in our neighborhood in Tokyo, and they were all disappointingly "reactive." After meeting these friendly fellows today, I am wondering whether the Tokyo JRs maybe just weren't getting enough exercise.
