Alpha males.

A national holiday. This of course guarantees that the weather is grey and windy.  On this blustery Monday morning a large flock of geese land in the corn field. We reckon there must  be eighty of them.

A week to go before the new semester starts and the students are starting to return. Down on the beach the usual cast of dog walkers are joined by a dozen or so youngsters cavorting. I'm guessing that for the students it's not so much an early morning as a continuation of a late night. The boys , determined to ignore the biting wind , rush into the sea. They bellow. The girls, sensibly spurning hypothermia, opt to stand on the shore or 'guard' the discarded clothing in the dunes. This we decide is by far the more rational option. 'The Font' wonders if the alpha males will be feeling quite as 'alpha' after a six am immersion in the North Sea.

We detour to the farm shop.

Local strawberries and Chanterelles picked yesterday.

Time to decorate the breakfast room. 'The Font' wants Swedish minamilism.

A stern green and blue picture considered but replaced by something 'cheerier'. Give it another week and the  pictures will all be hung and the wee cottage will be ready for the winter. Wednesday should see the final sign off by the builders. After that we'll start work on the gardens.

By the time the picture is up and in place the sun pops out.

I love everything about the very Scottish music video. Do I recognise the gentle voice of Karine Polwart?
The picture will provide welcome cheer in the coming grey winter months...
Cheers, Gail.
PS it's not a Bank Holiday in Aberdeen!

I love the Font's minamalist look, and am amazed how the colours of the items on your table match both paintings so well! For diplomacy one painting might be hung spring/sumer and the more colourful one perhaps hung in your breakfast room autum/winter to mark the change of seasons so you are both happy.

As for the cold swimming .... alpha males and the farmer's wife. I imagine the farmer's wife being better conditioned to the shock.

Ahh... Karine is a friend of my sister and the late Maestro (my niece), and there is talent oozing from every pore of that lady. That recording studio is over here in Argyll. Thank you for choosing that blessing to start our week... and for breakfast, that second picture works best! YAM xx

A beautiful piece of music. And I see what you meant about the local produce!

This last Monday in August marks I think, the last public holiday until Christmas. Once I retired, I stopped counting the days and holidays - every day is a holiday now, I'm happy to say.
Yes, the second picture adds cheer to your pale grey walls. The blue green painting would look better, perhaps, against a plain white wall.
The fruit and veg. look excellent - does the farm shop maintain the same standards and choice throughout the winter?

The fruit and vegetables so temptingly displayed look fresh and delicious.

So many great idea in the farm shop. The guys will need a little warming up after a dip in the sea.

That produce! You're missing France less and less, I imagine; though I read yesterday that there is a surplus of wine in France which they're going to have to destroy! A sacrilege! Beautiful music to start the week.

Coppa's Girl - late August Bank Holiday only applies to England and Wales. Scotland doesn't have that - but we have Nov 30th for St Andrew to look forward to! Yxx
