Snowdrops have sprung up overnight. The grass verges around the potato barns suddenly covered in them. The first sign that Spring is on its way.
Later today Angus has to go back to see the surgeon in Edinburgh for another small 'procedure'. If all goes well and the green light is given to flying we shall head off to Japan later in the month. It's early days but by the end of next month a new PON character may arrive in our small ( and windy ) corner of paradise.
Down on the beach it's quiet. The sky has a cloud free calmness that, in these parts, signals that another storm is on the way. The air is so clear we can see the cliffs forty miles north of us. We meet Archie the arthritic labrador and the Pomeranian.
In town the parking bays are busy. University staff, students and shopkeepers are all arriving for work. The herds of teenagers visiting the university on pre-application trips seem to have disappeared as quickly as they appeared.
The street outside Starbucks catches the early morning crowd on their way to the library for some last minute pre-seminar revision. A group of early morning swimmers wander past in flip flops, shorts, tee shirts and little else. They seem oblivious to the cold. How is it they don't catch pneumonia ?
Today, Starbucks has a sign on the pavement offering cheese and Marmite ciabatta and caramel oat latte. 'The Font' thinks this sounds delicious. Angus thinks it's borderline inedible , particularly at this time of the morning.
Back at The last wee house before Denmark the deer have discovered that another field has been ploughed. They move down the hill to the untouched grass on the foreshore. There are clouds building over the hills on the other side of the bay. Perhaps some snow lies in store for us ?

Just one PON?
Wishing you all the best for your "procedure" and then a holiday with the Font in Japan. Wonderful news about the possibility of a new PON for you both.
Liz H - To begin with
You had me at "new PON".
Cheers! Gail.
Me too - a new PON!
I am excited for you. You write beautifully- yours is the only blog I follow and it was originally for dogs in SW France, but it has been, for a long time, the quality of your narratives.
But with PON stories, things can only get better
I have been waiting and waiting for this announcement. A new “PON” is coming ๐๐ป๐พ๐พ how wonderful. What a joyful day that will be. So much fun is coming.

I hope the procedure will be successful. The anticipation a new puppy brings cannot be overstated.
Hurray!

All the best for the procedure... Your home will be better balanced with a dog in it, there's no denying. Though I may be the voice of dissention when I say that I hoped the next would be an adoptee from the local shelter... That off my chest, I still say yippee!!! YAM xx
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!!! There will be even more to read about in your blog! But I have fully enjoyed what you have written without a canine in your life.
Heal fast and well, adventures await abroad and at home.
I am happy that your eye surgeries may be winding down, Angus.
It's so hard for dog families to be without a family dog, they leave such a big hole in our lives. We are all looking forward to getting to know your newest little one. Will you choose a Scottish name? Congrats to you and the Font.
I'd been wondering about the possibility of a new PON puppy since you posted about the shortage of breeders a few weeks ago. It will be exciting to go through puppy days with you again. And then maybe an adoptee as the next step?
I hope your doctor gives you clearance to visit Japan. If you do go in late February, the plum trees may be blooming and I hope you can visit a plum garden - they are in my view even more beautiful than cherry trees.
I'm so very excited!! A new Pon puppy just put a huge smile on my face. Good luck with your procedure.

How exciting a new PON may well be coming to the last wee house before Denmark. What joy! I cannot help be curious as Sophie was your first female PON, do you have a preference for a male or female? Or does it not make any difference? After my usual despair reading the morning stories on the front page of the New York Times, your PON announcement put a big smile on my face. Thank you! Hope you are allowed to go to Japan.
I wonder what Puppy will think of a new PON puppy.
Looking forward to reading about your new adventures๐
The snowdrops are glorious. That I'm looking forward to a new character is putting it mildly.
The first signs of spring are so uplifting. A new PON puppy to expand the Absolutely Wonderful Scots Adventure is so exciting. Puppy will have a new friend!
Woohoo! A new PON. I can’t wait to read about him/her…
In addition to its two loving owners, your new PON will have instant aunties and uncles around the world!!! Can't wait!
A trip AND a puppy! What a grand day. paws crossed that your procedure is successful and that you are given the "all clear!"
oh my god !un nouvean chiot !!Merveilleux..Et tous mes voeux pour votre sante
So exciting - a puppy!!
Joining all the above in wishing you luck for the "procedure" and a safe and comfortable trip.
All my Boston Terriers were rescues, from a breed-specific rescue. Are there , perhaps, PON-specific, rescue(s) in Scotland or the UK?
I understand, however, that rescue is not for everybody. In the words of one of my friends-a dog-person himself- you sometimes inherit other persons's mistakes.

I type as the proud owner of one puppy, five delightful rescues, and a mistake- who is the current love of my life
Doing a happy dance here with the news of a new PON!! I also hope the Dr. visit goes well and you get the "all clear to travel"!
Snowdrops have shown themselves overnight as well here in Indiana close to the Ohio River.
