The wind this morning is diabolical. Some winds are biting. This is searing. We were expecting bad weather but we weren't expecting this.
The Puli is what is technically known as a 'sight'. I'd put the 'look' down to the wind but maybe not.
Outside the butcher a spaniel has been tied up while his mistress goes in for a pound of sausages. Passers by stop and have a wee chat. The spaniel makes it clear that to be tied up near the smell of sausages is a double torture. I like towns where people talk to dogs.
This provided some good insights. How quickly things are changing :https://samf.substack.com/p/oh-canada-f78

Joan Armatrading sings for the King. Not long ago Commonwealth Day was ignored. This year it's become highly political and popular. I wonder what's changed ? :https://youtu.be/hrUuYp26NyM?t=3218

The Puli doesn't look particularly svelte - I wonder how on earth you groom that coat, or if it looks any better afterwards!
I think the Chinese gentleman adheres to an extreme 'less is more' approach to dog grooming.

The temperature reached freezing again last night here by the Clyde... but no wind (yet) and sunny. I'll take that. Sadly the Canada article is truncated behind a 'sign up' - but I will say I am interested to see how MC goes, as was always impressed with his dignity and quiet determination. Both he and Ms Freeland were intereviewed by the The Rest Is Politics: Leading podcasters and it's well worth a listen. YAM xx
The ship wreck looks really nasty. Sounds like a good day to stay inside and read.
Angus, any thoughts on what the outcome will be for the US Canada trade war?
My daughter lived in Brooklyn close to the Domino Sugar building and at that point it was an abandoned building. She moved away 7 years ago and on our visits to NYC we have watched the building evolve to what it is now and enjoy walking through the lovely park that celebrates the Domino Sugar heritage.
Well, it took two photos, but I can now determine the direction of travel of the Puli.
That puli is a vision. I remember well looking at the Domino Sugar building across the river - not sure how I feel about it being all gussied up, although I suppose it is better than it's being torn down.
I'm sorry your wind is 'searingly cold.' I'm not a fan of wind, especially a cold wind. We are enjoying some much needed rain in LA and temps in the 40's. Quite pleasant. Except if one lives with dogs who just know that they will melt if they encounter one drop of rain! Thanks for the Joan Armatrading clip. I always get goosebumps when I hear her sing that song.
Any town where people stop to talk to unknown dogs is, in my opinion, the height of civilisation.
Commonwealth Day: a need for unity in troubled times?
I’ve just started reading James Rebanks “The Place of Tides”. This about a time many years ago when he spent time on a remote Norwegian island learning and helping an elderly lady who cared for wild eider ducks and gathered their down to sell.
The best forecast I've seen ( and the one used by the Manhattanites ) assumes he sticks with a trade war then it and probably means a fall in Canadian GDP of 4% in 2025 and 3% in 2026. The Impact on the bigger US economy would be much less than that but would be seen in heating oil pricing this coming winter.
