All that is gold does not glitter. Not all those who wander are lost.

A quick trip to the garden centre for more fence posts. Sophie has again managed to get into the compost heap. She can get in but she can't get out . She sits and howls until I come and free her. There is no sign of where she might be making her entry. Bob tries to get in by throwing himself at the fence. He then, good naturedly, gives up.

Since yesterdays visit the garden centre has had a delivery of reconstituted stone garden ornaments. Seems Buddhas are a favourite in French gardens.

Half a croissant at the cafe under the arcades. The waitress stops and chats to Bob and Sophie.  They each get their hair tousled. Angus  once again has time to wonder if the cafe has the worlds ugliest tables.

A quick walk on top of the ridge before we get home. The sunflowers now drooping. The wheat gathered in. A hint of autumn in the morning air.

Those tables probably wouldn't have been my first choice.

It has felt a little fresher over the past couple of days which has been a relief whilst clearing a courtyard of the monster weeds that have taken over during our absence.

A gentler hum to the countryside.

Are there places where you allow Bob and Sophie to walk off the lead yet?

Have a lovely day.

They are still on the lead. Bob has developed, out of nowhere, a tendency to chase or lunge at, passing cars.

That's Sophie 2 Angus 0 on the PON proofing game then ! Still, at least its safer than the game Bob wants to play with the cars, no Bob, that's not a good game.

Could Bob be giving her a paw up-and-over - thus leaving himself stranded?

As soon as I saw the pic of the Cafe du Sport I thought it looked like a bit of Autumnal sunshine was creeping in :-/

Naughty Angus - tables have feelings too you know :-)

Have fun x

The tables look like they came from the "Back to School" aisle at Ikea :)

Something tells me that if you were to
build a fenced area in which to confine
Sophie, she would sneak out in a flash.

Maybe the water pistol trick would help
to discourage Bob from his naughty ways.

Sophie is keeping her magician's tricks hidden for the time being.
Maybe when you and the Font are installing the additional fence posts, keep an eye on her, and see where she goes sniffing around, and check that area for a way into the compost area. She is smart that one.
It's weekend again, so have a good one.

My sister's dog was a notorious fence climber. Perhaps Sophie has this talent?

Is there an elevated area near by from which she could have jumped?

When you find out how Sophie is getting over, through or around the fence, it will seem so obvious--Let us know!

She must be jumping over, surely if she were burrowing under there would be a sign and if she were climbing she would be able to climb out.i really believe she is jumping and somehow Bob is "helping" her. Unbeknownst to him or not. She must have somekind of help to get in that is not available to her once inside. Or maybe she just needs a good long run in order to leap over the fence.

Oh I do love a compelling mystery featuring villagr folk. Comesfrom reading Agatha Christie as a girl I suspect.

Maybe: Sophie pushes inward against the lower part of the wire netting at some point along its perimeter. This moves the netting inward and lifts it just enough for her to wiggle under and move into the enclosure. When she tries to leave, she pushes outward at the same point along the fence line but now she cannot move the netting outward and lift it just enough to again wiggle under the netting and move out of the enclosure. Pushing inward initially scoops out a small depression on the inner face of the fence line, creating a small wall on the outer face of the fence line (being the outer rim of the excavated depression). This outer rim is just high enough to prevent the netting from being pushed outward enough for her to wiggle under and allow her to leave the enclosure. Pushing first inward and then pushing outward smooths out any scuffing marks just enough to eliminate any tell-tell signs of her work.

Unfortunately, this scenario is very hard to describe with just words. An illustration would be so much clearer.

I really can't imagine Sophie is able to jump six (and a bit) feet upward, even with a running start or by using Bob as a stepping stone or trampoline. Sophie burrowing under the fence would leave very obvious signs of digging. And I think Bob would be able to squirm through Sophie's tunnel (albeit with a bit more effort), hot on her heels. Sophie attempting to scale the fence would create distortion and sag in the wire netting where she applied her weight while climbing. Sophie using a ladder to climb over the fence would leave two sets of two small holes spaced the width of the ladder on either side of the fence. And, again, Bob would be up and over right behind her.

I agree with Anonymous #1: "Time to set out a webcam." (Adding the proviso "Well camouflaged and placed high above the fenced enclosure" as dogs seldom look up without provocation.); and Bertie, "Female cunning [I prefer ingenuity] trumps male brute force."

Maybe she uses Bob for a piggy back jump?
