The best mirror is an old friend.

The leaves suddenly fall from the trees. Not one by one but in a sudden blizzard that carpets the courtyard. Every breath of wind starts a new cascade. By lunchtime the poplars along the lane are bare. Does this sudden denudation happen every year ? Bob and Sophie, particularly Sophie, race around the garden trying to catch the leaves before they hit the ground. She dances across the lawn ; a blur of leaps and pirouettes. Choreographed lunacy. Unable to catch them Bob finally adopts a different, less energetic, approach. He waits until they land, then chews them. A determined '' that'll show you " look on his face.

Tonight an invitation to the Comte and Comtesse for dinner. A famous French 'intellectual' is visiting.  '' You'll enjoy it " says 'the font' in a tone of voice that might be used to tell an eight year old that a trip to the dentist will be 'fun'. In readiness for the arctic temperatures in the chateaus dining room Angus looks out a thermal ski vest. He shall wear this under as many layers of clothing as possible.

Shouldn't those leaves have changed colour first?

Perhaps the 'intellectual' can explain the joy so many of us feel in observing (even if only remotely) the contrasting personalities of two adorable PON pups?

Yes they should. Perhaps they haven't is something to do with the heavy rain followed by a blast of arctic air .

I think Sophie must have been watching Madame Bay quite intently to be able to dance with "Choreographed lunacy."
Enjoy the dinner evening, at least you sound prepared for "the weather."

Is the leaf dance less muddy ? Or are you getting a trail of leaves in the house now ?

The leaves make fantastic backgrounds for the PON duo...Pointillist PONS

Well I am thankful that this time the frantic leaf chasing was due to real leaves and not hallucinations.

Oh my goodness, I do hope we get to hear about your evening!

Will you be more revealing abut the French "intellectual" than about the "grande dame" of the theater????? Can't wait to hear about the costumes, the food, and the conversation!!
