It's Angus' birthday. The PONs are told they're going to be left alone to guard the house while we go off for lunch. They wear their '' it's a dogs life " expression.
Five tables set under the arches outside the little restaurant. A Belgian couple in a shiny BMW show up without a reservation. They're told that there's ' simply no room '. Commercialism here in France profonde has yet to catch on.
I usually don't photograph food but
A cold tomato mousse with mozarella 'spume'
Coquilette in orange sauce
and two puddings ( The Font having less of a sweet tooth than Angus )
All for less than the price of four beers in Laguna Beach tells you why the Germans have a phrase '' To live like God in France ".

Bonne anniversaire, Angus! Here's to a very good year ahead and lots of laughter with the Pons.
Been reading about your adventures for some years now and just want you to know how happy these postings make me. Simple observations but a real gift to those who take the time.
A reader in Tiburon, CA (take the ferry across the Bay next time you visit the cost centres!)
Happy Birthday! Maybe there could be some rug surfing in the later afternoon.
Happy Birthday, Angus, and many more to come.
What a delightful place to celebrate your birthday and such delicious food. Nothing left for a doggie bag for two absent family members?
We too, have been happily following your adventures since the days of Wilf and Digby in Italy.
Belated Happy Birthday Angus
Double dessert - what a marvellous way to celebrate! Any doggy bags?
Happy birthday. Thanks for showing the food--I am going to try to recreate that cold tomato mousse.
Better not show Bob and Sophie those photos…
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! That was a wonderful way to celebrate your birth. (It's HER bd, too.)
Happy birthday, Angus. Sounds like it was a good one. My guess is you chose the chocolate.

Happiest of birthdays and many happy returns of the day.
Lunch looks splendid. I'm absolutely swooning. Very glad for your photos.
Poor lost pony. He'd have followed you anywhere. Hope he's ok. Speeding cars and ponies don't mix well.
Hope you have a very happy day!

P.S. Lovely snaps of the meal!
It looks like the happiest of birthdays, certainly in the food department. Bonne anniversaire! Would you tell us more about the food please, as in what is that small green timbale on the main course plate and what is mozzarella spume? Also more about the restaurant – would you be so kind as to tell us the name and location. The building looks absolutely ancient...and beautiful. Thank you.
The BBC has done a very interesting programme on building a castle in the 13th century style in Guedelon, France and your restaurant looks almost as old.
