Unplug and recalibrate.

The first round of the French Presidential elections a month away. There's a nervousness in the air about terrorist attacks. Armed soldiers are posted outside the doors of the basilica.

Little old ladies on bikes, heading back from Mass, stop and talk to the squaddies as if armed soldiers were an everyday sight. One lady tells a somewhat bemused soldier that ' this is no weather to be out and about in '. The soldiers are mere boys, the old ladies are polite and kind. A study in contrasts.

Bobs antidote to the febrile environment is to engage in a lengthy game of Throw the Furry Fox.

'The Fonts' answer is to suggest that we recover from next weeks 'event' at a health farm in the Rockies. A place , as the advertisement says, to unplug and recalibrate. 1400 vegan calories a day, no bar, no ESPN and group yoga sessions. Did I say no bar ?

Well, if they pay you $6,800 for joining them, perhaps you could consider it, and take your own booze? Otherwise .... the PONS would miss you too much!

Surely the 'Font' was just winding you up...

1400 calories a day? That seems like very little for so much money. It isn't as if carrots, beans and lettuce were expensive.
Two drinks would blow out the calorie count. That's why there's no booze. (Although wine is vegan, isn't it?)
Self-defense???!!!

Only in the U.S.! The founder's objective is to part the gullible from their money! The medical profession's latest thinking is that the vegan diet is not, in fact, entirely healthy, and lacks certain vitamins and minerals that can trigger quite serious diseases.
I do hope that 'The Font' is winding you up!

I've known a few people who have gone to what are sometimes known as "wellness retreats." You are right, they are rarely ever easy on the wallet, and depending on the location, unplugged sometimes translates to no cell phone coverage as well.

I think the best view of Mr. Glasscock's retreat would be from the window of an airplane...while enjoying a glass of wine.
Wonder if the armed soldiers are around and about in the Netherlands too.

That is pricey deprivation!

'Event' is this CC3 ?

Be careful, such places also tend to prohibit caffeine and sugar, as well as to have proprietors who feel the need to proselytize. Now I'm curious as to what "event" is in the offing.

I’m going to disagree with Coppa’s Girl – sorry :) – because you can find many members of the medical profession who endorse a vegan diet that is well managed. But I suspect that lifestyle doesn’t appeal to you, Angus, any more than the price tag. 1400 calories is on the slim side, especially considering all that group hiking and core and ab work plus weights.

This sounds like 'adult summer camp', will you be sleeping in bunk beds?

My brother in law in Friesland has a saying " how to get your money into their pocket"! This seems a perfect example. No drinks"....... Not for me.

Definitely not.

Oh my gosh. 1400 vegan calories and no bar. Well, it might not make you live longer, but it sure will seem like eternity. Should make your wallet feel lighter anyways. I bet they don't have those pretty desserts either. Or yummy cheese. I'd like to know about self defence. Is that where you pull down barriers that have been keeping others out? Are you sure you want to do bisiness with a company that doesn't use some kind of editing software?

That idea really sounds rather like a "Rocky Mountain Low", Angus. Tons of fun stuff to do in the Rockies at a fraction of that cost, WITH wine. Alan Davies on Q.I. had a hilarious, albeit very off-color, joke about a fellow with that surname and it always makes me laugh when I see it. I do hope France has better luck with the presidential search than we did here in the U.S. So glad the pups are thriving! This was a great post!
