Visiting the vet.

Amazingly, the angelic duo seem to know that a trip to the vet is on the cards. This morning they've taken up their parallel parked 'glum' position in the downstairs hall. You know it's the 'glum' position because their tails aren't wagging. 'The Font' can only assume that we have a particular tone of voice that is only used at 'vet time'.

Bob is loaded up in readiness to be driven down to the surgery. He gives me his ' Is I about to be murdered ? ' look.

Before closing the tailgate the male dog and his master have a conversation about whether his tooth aches. Non dog owners observing this conversation might think the human participant completely crazy. Dog owners will however recognize that this form of communication is quite normal for both parties.

The male dog does a very good job of indicating where it hurts.

After the incident Bob is lame in one leg and has bruising around the shattered incisor. He's eating, drinking and sleeping well. Yesterday afternoon he was taken back to the scene of the accident in a '' get back in the saddle as soon as possible " way. He wasn't in the slightest bit nervous and was keen to christen all his usual spots round the market square. The small black Renault had gone.

We're now off to the vets to discover what the damage is.

Good luck and warm thoughts for Bob from both of us. (I was too angry to write yesterday.)

So pleased to read that Bob's behaviour seems normal. It would be good to think that the girl responsible for the accident did not sleep so soundly.
Hope all goes well at the vets.
Cheers, Gail.

I'm pleased to hear Bob sounds as if there is nothing too serious wrong.

I had an interesting clash of French and English with dogs recently. Out walking with friends and their dog, past a farmhouse and a rottweiler cross came charging out and aimed straight for the English dog. He obviously made contact because she yelped and he came away with a big chunk of fur in his gob. There was a lively verbal interchange during which the French owner claimed her dog did not bite and how dare we, and a French friend with us informed her that she was a person of bad character. Anyway, we moved on, a bit ruffled, and finished the walk. To my amazement, the young French woman rang up that evening to apologise for her dog and her behaviour and even offered to pay any vet bills (there weren't any, as the English dog appeared unscathed on close examination). The French woman said she had been 'taken by surprise' (which is probably true, as it was quite a remote location and she wouldn't have expected passersby, but even so, I think her dog should by law have been contained or muzzled).

There are exciting options to repair his tooth - he will be back to normal in no time. Not impressed with the girls and her driving - so glad it wasn't much, much worse for poor Bob.

We have 'Beware of the dogs' signs on all the gates and check every few days to make sure there are no holes in the fence. Bob is amusing sitting in his stump seat with a toy in his mouth but we've learnt that the PONs can be placid 99.9% of the time but will become excitable on rare occasions if they sense they don't like someone. Having signs and fencing, I think, is the law here. The rotweiller owner may have recognized that she had held herself open to prosecution .

Just as Sophie is better, it's Bob's turn (again--he seems to get lots of turns).
If you didn't get a photo of the black Renault on the sidewalk, you probably are out of luck. A drunk ran into our gate, and some neighbors even got his license plate number, because he stayed there, passed out, for a while, before fleeing. But it wasn't enough proof for the police because the neighbors didn't see the car actually hitting the gate, just the car against it and the gate knocked off its hinges.

Even better that her car was towed away and it will cost her more than she can afford to get it back !

Crossing all paws here for good news from the vet. If Bob is eating, drinking and sleeping well, then hopefully that's an indication that there isn't too much wrong with him. Good that he wasn't fazed when you returned with him to the scene of the accident.

Hope all is well for Monsieur Bob. Such a lovely lad. I was thinking of him this afternoon wondering how he was going. It is reassuring to know that you have such good Vets at hand. The whole family at ROFH is very special. Fingers and toes crossed for a good outcome.

Just read the news. Oh poor boy. I do hope everything is OK and that his tooth is repairable. Children under the age of 25 should be banned from driving. Altogether too much attitude. Hurrumph.

Thinking of Bob! Hopefully that young woman later realized how dreadful her reaction was. (And if not, hopefully karma will one day pay her a visit. If this is how she acted in this situation, it's safe to say that's how she reacts to anything...)

I wrote a comment yesterday saying not very nice things about the girl driver...and then I think I pushed the wrong button and it disappeared. Guess I'll keep it to myself now, but to say her behavior was inexcusable. I hope Bob's vet has some good solution for the tooth. And I notice you said "lame in one leg" so I sure hope that is temporary bruising. Sending prayers from North Carolina to Bob and you all. Will be checking back to see how Bob is and what happens. I'm hoping for some sort of bonding for his tooth.

What a sweet dog. Maybe he should christen the girl who hit him 😊

Bob is a brave fellow indeed. May all his injuries soon heal.
The duo project patient resignation in the first picture.

An excellent suggestion!

Oh Angus, I'm just getting caught up and reading about Bob. I share the whole range of feelings, thoughts and emotions shared by other readers and no doubt you and 'the font' as well about what has happened. I hope that all has gone well for Bob today and he will be in our thoughts as we send the very best for him from our corner of Virginia.

PS: We have two 24 hour vets nearby that are always open. It does not come cheaply - You can count on spending at least $500 to start. But as I'm sure you will agree, it's worth every penny when it's urgently needed.

So hope the damage isn't too bad.

I am hoping that Bob now knows that he won't be "murdered" and has some good pain relief medicine in him as well as another yummy soft meal from the Font.
Bob (XXX), never forget: you are in Bob's Country and you were on BOB's sidewalk. No cars allowed!
Thoughts are for your Mom and Dad...we all know that our Sophie (XXX)is probably oblivious on planet Diva. :-)
