'' Truth, the sum of existence, will weather the worst. Eternal ... unchanged... evermore ".

Bob starts the day with the suggestion that we may want to spend a little time playing '' Throw lamb on a rope ". Lamb on a rope has been hidden in the rose border for an occasion like this. To an outside observer ' Lamb ' looks a little the worse for wear but not to soul mate Bob who carries it proudly in his mouth.

Sophie emerges into the courtyard and joins her brother. A tractor passes down the lane. Being a deathly quiet Sunday morning the angelic duo greet the passing tractor 'enthusiastically'. How the villagers must love us !

Into the little market town. In the heavy rain the Sunday morning market is an uninspired affair.

We get settled into the cafe by the empty Haagen Dazs store for a cup of coffee and a bowl of water. Our peace and quiet is disturbed by the arrival of a lively young Spaniel. Bob is eager to greet this new arrival. Sophie looks at the Spaniel in a way which makes me clip the lead onto her harness. Coffee and water are drunk quickly and we venture on our way without incident. When going out with Sophie you never quite know how the spirit will move her. Warm and welcoming or furious and feisty ? Today, thankfully, she has tended towards the warm and welcoming.

Four types of pineapple in the greengrocers. I tried one of the boat shipped cheap ones last week. It was inedible. The French ones ( from some Pacific colony ) are the most expensive but are delicious.

Back at home Bob gives his sister a Sunday morning kiss.

The locals have never known a winter with so much rain. We're lucky . Up North it's worse. Only 3 hours of sunshine so far this month in some of the big industrial cities : https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/19/aint-no-sunshine-winter-darkest-europe

There is nothing like a well loved toy. An old friend. By the way how is Loic?

I would say spaniels are normally friendly, but yesterday we met one who took a nip at Bertie's ear and drew a drop of blood.

Thank goodness we spent mid-November to mid-January in Australia! The weather since we've been back in France has been dismal.

Does Sophie appreciate these kisses that Bob gives her? There are so many other girl pups out there who would appreciate the gesture !

Fresh pineapple has been a longtime favorite of mine. I remember when most of ours used to come from the Dole/Del Monte plantations in Hawaii. But now most of ours say the "country of origin" is some part of the Philippines or Costa Rica, costing anywhere from $4-5.00 each. Worth every penny if the flavor is good.

Amen to your title today. I tend to find that the pineapples which show up on our supermarket shelves here require to sit for a week in the kitchen before being remotely edible. YAM xx

It's been so hot and so dry (for about 3 years, I believe) in South Africa that Capetown is on the verge of completely running out of water. I would prefer wet gloom.

The rain is getting on everyone's nerves. But the wind is worse.

The little market town does look dreary. Heading to a sunny 43°C today.
