A small piece of plyboard.

After a slow start the Olympics is providing some riveting viewing. All those corporate sponsors who withdrew their support may now be regretting being so hasty. The Rugby Sevens are great fun - quick with lots of points being scored. The Fijian team were spectacular. The skateboarding is watched in bemusement that soon gives way to amazement. Whoever knew you could do things like that with a small piece of plyboard and four wheels ? Being in your teens helps.

The black and white C-A-T is back again this morning. It looks at me as I open the shutters on the upstairs balcony.  Of all the places it could start its day it has to choose The Rickety Old Farmhouse. The fact that it's here every morning would indicate the black and white C-A-T  doesn't  feel threatened by the presence of a Polish Lowland Sheepdog in the house. This is a thought best kept from Sophie who is inordinately proud of her guarding skills.

My shaggy companion is oblivious to the presence of this feline intruder on the terrace. She has her mind set on curly croissant ends. She exudes a sense of ' Do get on with it !' impatience .

After our start of morning outing to the cafe we head on down to the valley for a walk  to the lake. There are ducks paddling around affably. This provides an excuse for the PONette to shriek in frustration. The ducks, safe on the water,  ignore her.

By the time we get home The Old Farmer is up and about. He's tied a rope to the back bumper of the venerable Mercedes and is pulling out the even more venerable Peugeot from the garage. The Peugeot has been in there, idle,  for the last eighteen months and is now in  need of a tune and a lube. I quietly wonder how many 91 year olds would start their days with this level of activity.

The Old Farmer looks pretty spry in today's shot - perhaps he's enjoying his "space." I have also been enjoying the Olympics - I can never figure out exactly which event is being broadcast on which channel at at any given time, so I've been watching kind of randomly and stumbling upon all sorts of interesting things. It's also been fun watching the Japanese kids dominate the skateboarding events - it's kind of an outlaw pastime here, so skateboarders across Japan are savoring vindication. It's too bad it's so hot, but at least we dodged the much-anticipated typhoon, which changed course overnight and didn't cause much of a problem.

The Old Farmer does indeed look very sprightly, and from this distance one wouldn't imagine he was 91 years old. How many 70+ year olds are as upright and look so fit?
We have discussed Sophie's tendency to shriek at most animals she sees. Inca is of the opinion that Sophie is merely trying to communicate, rather than frighten or give chase. Perhaps she's right, and the frustrated shriek is merely due to a lack of response, with no chance for a nice chat?
This morning on a visit to the vet to collect Inca's tablets, I had to laugh at two very audacious black cats who sat patiently outside the door, as though waiting to be admitted. The vet's wife said that they do this every time there are dogs on the premises!

I'm such a fan of the Old Farmer, and am pleased to have him back on your posts more frequently now that he's once again living next door. I'm also a fan of the Belgian Lady so have been musing that the OF might just take a stroll down the lane to re-establish their friendship.

Sophie certainly keeps you entertained each day - and your sharing of each day brightens mine as well as other readers, I'm sure. It is these "little" things that I look forward to every day.

C-A-T must also provide free mousing services. A fair trade for sleeping in the garden. I'm sure Sophie doesn't consider these high-level economic transactions. Nor should she. She is a Diva, after all!
