Two bees on a teasel

A balmy Monday morning. Sophie and her companion sit on the concrete storm drain and put the world to rights. Lots to talk about this morning - Cuba, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia. Sophie sees the donkeys in their field and studies them intently. As all PONs instinctively know you can never be too sure with donkeys. We wave at the young garagiste heading off to work in his BMW and nod at two local farmers in their white Renault vans.' Going to be hot M'Ongoose !' one of them shouts out as he drives by.

It has been 19 months since we were last able to travel to the UK. Now, just as we were planning to head off for a quick trip to London, the British government has decided that any traveller from France must self isolate for ten days. You can be sure that the French will soon reciprocate. That adds up to a lot of self isolating for a trip to the dentist.

The water hole that Sophie drinks from is now nearly dry. She manages to find a muddy patch that she can slurp from. She seems more than satisfied with this.

This mornings croissant a 6.1/10.  The cafe nearly empty. Summer holiday time is here.

Angus stops the car to look at the new Land Rover. He also looks at the price and has sticker shock. When did everything become so expensive ?

On the grass verges outside The Rickety Old Farmhouse the bees are happily at work on the teasels. Can anything signal as clearly that all will be well with the world ? So starts a high summer Monday morning in deepest, deepest France profonde.

That first photo of Sophie would be rather magnificent if you hadn't mentioned that she is actually gazing at donkeys. I think you are right about the bees. There is something very timeless about summer or maybe it's that time seems to move more slowly. Maybe it has to do with the fact that this is the time of year when we felt free-est when we were young? I felt it this past weekend when we finally had heat and sun in Tokyo and found ourselves spending hours playing ball with Charlie as he splashed around in his little pool on the terrace. (Who knew they sell little folding pools for dogs these days?)

All may be well with the bees, but I'm not s0 sure about the rest of the world.
It's going to be a hot one today here too, and we're just cooling off after our morning walk. Inca doesn't know it, (though I might just have mentioned it to her in passing) but we are shortly heading out for her trip to the vet for her annual shots. There are one or two things I need to do in town so I'll ask them to look after her when I head out afterwards. I could take her with me, but all those enticing new smells mean we'd be out all day!

Sophie, donkeys are so much more interesting than the problems of Latin America, aren't they?
Did you enjoy your croissant ends this morning?
Toodle pip!

Ah....summers in my memories, in many other places, top those here in our current residence in SE USA. Of course, I work through our summers, which are mostly overcast, hot and muggy. Altogether, not the prescription for summer beauty. However, the cardigans and the New SPoo keep us happy.

That new phone takes magnificent photos! Sophie on the manhole cover is a beauty - and the bees!! Those Land Rovers look quite sturdy and utilitarian. The ones imported to the US look like rolling 5-star hotels. I haven't checked the prices lately. Sticking with my small Lexus hybrid and my nearly 20 year old "dog car" for now :-)

Sophie is, of course, always magnificent, but the bee-picture took my breath away! It has a timeless dimension that, perhaps, puts into perspective this world's current preoccupations. Life will endure regardless...
