The axe forgets, the tree remembers.

The 'bad' farmer is busily harvesting the last of the sunflowers . Flocks of thrushes and starlings following in the combines wake. He stops, gets out of the cab and wanders over to make small talk. While we chat Bob and Sophie settle down amid the wildflowers for a nap. Stupidly, oh so stupidly, I tell him that life along the lane is quiet without the two cows in the field opposite. '' I'll make sure I bring a couple more along to keep you company " he says jovially. Having watched , and become increasingly angry about the maltreatment of his herd, this is not a response I'd expected. Nor welcome. Maybe he'll forget.

The grande dame of stage and screen coming on her annual visit this weekend. Angus buys champagne ( " I only drink good champagne " ) while ' the font ' gets the guest room ready. Caroline , the new cleaning lady, washes some sheets and hangs them out to dry. At lunchtime ' the font ' wonders why Bob and Sophie are so quiet. Silence, as all puppy owners know, is bad. Very bad. The answer is soon apparent. Sophie can be found in the middle of the cherry orchard. She has somehow managed to pull the sheets down from the washing line and then constructed a cosy nest out of them . She exudes happiness. This is not an emotion exuded by 'the font'.

Better a nest than a meal!

Oh Sophie, well done girl, there is nothing so good as sleeping on clean, outdoor dried sheets. 100% cotton, I presume?
Toodle pip!

Oh dear. I imagine a new, higher placement for the drying of sheets might be found shortly. She now has the taste.
Have a lovely day.

Oh Angus, I enjoyed today's photos, but the photo I would have loved was Sophie amongst her clean sheets....oh my, oh my....priceless.
She does have great taste that one....diva extraordinaire.

I probably would have said the same thing to the 'bad farmer' in that same moment--I also hope he forgets.

Pity you didn't get a photo of Sophie in the sheets! Glorious day down there...

Sophie was very proud of her innovative outdoor bedding.

Sophie is the grande dame of your family, it's clear.

Wet and fluttering sheets are far too much of a temptation.
Take them with you when you go for the champagne.
The good champagne!

Ha ha ha! Of course, it would only occur to her to that on a day when company is coming!

Did you tell the farmer you don't want to see them unless he's feeding them?

I was thinking that I don't completely agree with the title today, but it is obviously spot on when it comes to the bad farmer.

Sophie always seems to exude happiness but all the same would you take a photo of her in the sheets next time, please?
