Storms.

Strange sultry weather. Thunderstorm after thunderstorm. Last night one of those Mississippi style downpours. This morning at first light the thunder is already rumbling away over the mountains. Black anvil clouds mark the horizon. It looks as if we've got another day of lightning and hail ahead of us.

Bob and Sophie are more or less oblivious to thunder. Sophie doesn't seem to notice it at all. If it gets very loud Bob prudently makes sure he's near 'The Font' to provide moral encouragement.

The cooler temperatures mean we can all head off to the little market town in the car.

Angus notices that Spanish Pata Negra ham is E199.95 a kilo.

Some faux-filet for dinner. The head butcher trims it and then holds out the scraps for the PONs. Raw meat ! What a start to the day.

We are the only customers at the cafe on the square. The townsfolk clearly suffering from Monday morning blues. The young waiter brings the PONs a digestive biscuit to share. This is received with much tail wagging. Parallel lives. We do the chores while Bob and Sophie enjoy the high excitement of the best day ever.

Marie Antoinette's farm outside Paris has been restored. She wanted to live the simple life of a farmer. The farmers wanted the comfort of her life. The two views proved irreconcilable : https://www.vogue.fr/culture/a-voir/diaporama/poussez-les-portes-du-hameau-secret-de-marie-antoinette-a-versailles/50659#la-maison-de-la-reine-et-la-tour-de-tour-de-marlborough_image1

Berite thinks Sophie should be given a sliver of Spanish Pata Negra ham. Because she's worth it...
But I confess I've never heard of said ham, and am wondering just what is done to it to justify the eye wateringly high price?
Cheers, Gail.

I'm not sure of the technicalities but it's a rare Spanish black pig that is allowed to wander free to scavenge on acorns. There are lots of cheap copies but the real product is expensive . I've tried it once or twice and find it more than enjoyable but somewhat chewy. The story in French can be found here :http://www.monpatanegra.fr/content/6-qu-est-ce-que-le-jambon-pata-negra

Half a digestive each - oh wow - what a start to the week ! I'd better not tell Inca, or she'll insist on moving to France immediately! Our weather is proving somewhat better than yours at the moment though - heavy early morning cloud has usually given way to blue skies and sunshine by mid-day. We have had ferociously high winds almost every day in the early evening.

The price on the site you give is more in the €30-€60/kg range, which is expensive but not as crazy as €200 a kilo. I think the locals would look askance at such lofty prices.

Doesn't one of the CC's live in the D.C. area? If so, they must be able to commiserate with you about your rainy weather. Our TV broadcasters who cover the capital are beginning to complain. And last night's Memorial Day tribute there was attended by a small audience with umbrellas whereas it's usually packed. Meanwhile we have drought conditions here in Texas as usual.

We were supposed to have rain all weekend, but its held off all weekend on our side of the Potomac. However, Ellicott City near Baltimore was crushed with flash-flooding. Hope you've fared well through your storms.

Annapolis not the driest place to be over Memorial Day.
