It will be wonderful

First light. We wave goodbye to 'The Font' who is heading off to Paris in pursuit of a Chinese visa. As the car heads down the drive Bob and Sophie develop that ' who's making dinner ? ' look.

'The Font' is joining me in a trip to Beijing. I know this is a good idea because 'The Font' has told me repeatedly that ' it will be wonderful'. Angus is less sure. The Park Hyatt with its international restaurant, air conditioned bar and ESPN has been rejected in favour of a hotel with 'more local flavour'. There are vague promises to travel 'light' but these only highlight the elasticity of meaning surrounding the word.

Today, at the cafe, an unexciting croissant that has that processed bread taste and texture.  Bob and Sophie think it's wonderful.

A quick run to the supermarket. We're nearly out of rice cakes. Since we stopped giving the PONs anything other than rice cakes and carrots as treats their 'itchy ear' allergies have disappeared.

Could you pass the test ? : https://woodrow.org/news/one-state-pass-us-citizenship-exam/

British expats will get this :-

"Local flavour" in China promises excellent blog material.

Maybe a night or two of a place with "local flavour" will have you back at the Hyatt.

PS: Bailey was not anesthetized to take the x-rays on her back. Even on her best day, you can do anything to her. But she was really exhausted, so it was easier to take them. I held her back feet, the gentleman assistant, the front.

Wondered how you got the x-rays done. Don't think that would work with Sophie.

You can be sure of it.

Photos - yes. What they're of will undoubtedly be a surprise for all of us. I fear street food may play a role.

When Australia wanted to introduce a similar testing for citizenship, the fact that many Aussies would actually fail said test was a major news discussion!!! Am just glad I gained citizenship looooong before the need to study. Despite being keen on history myself, I simply cannot marry dates and events or list royal families or whatever ... anyway... that's what the internet is for &*>

Ah Beijing - seems an age since that was last mentioned. Buying Chinese vases in Paris seems to me to be out of order - or is it just practice??? YAM xx

I am constantly amazed at the changes that have taken place in China in such a relatively short time. Last time I was there, the Peking Hotel was the local five-star establishment and top-flight shopping was the No. 1 Department Store. Post lots of pictures, please.
As I understand it, rice cakes help generate tryptophan, soothing and calming, which may be also good for dogs.
