Tramper

The usual morning mayhem as Sophie complains that her brother is taking up too much space in the back of the car. The space is not shared on a 50-50 basis. A 70-30 split allows the family diva to recline regally while her brother sits bolt upright in his allotted space.

We stop to say hello to the mayor who is heading off to set up the village hall for the annual residents gathering. We ask how his wife is getting on. 'So,so but can't complain ' he replies. I'm glad we've met the mayor.  His quiet and always cheerful sense of duty is a reminder that human decency is based on what we owe to each other.

The bakers display uninspiring. We briefly consider a round pastry thing with what looks like coffee cream filling but decide against it.

Christmas lingers in the little local supermarket. It seems 25% off chocolate Santa's isn't enough to make them fly from the shelf. Chocolate Christmas trees are 50% off but despite the bigger discount they're also slow to shift. Eternal roses - whatever they are - have been moved to a position by the checkouts. Having failed to sell in December the management clearly hope's that they'll go by Valentines Day.

Piles of unsold Nutella at the end of every aisle reinforces the supposition that this has been an unchocolaty festive season. Angus wonders if Nutella is sold in the US. He's never seen it there but he's never looked.

Outside in the car park a man in a red hoodie parks a Volkswagen Tramper. In what universe could the marketing department think that calling a vehicle a 'Tramper' is in anyway chic ? This will of course be the same marketing departments that christened the dog car a  'Lounge'.

A Verdi opera - La force du destin - that for some reason is little performed even though it contains a beautiful aria  : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjfaIeevvao

Lots of nutella in Canada

VW also named an SUV the Touareg, after the nomadic Tuareg of Saharan Africa. The cognitive dissonance in that one probably paved the way for Tramper.
Thank you for the lovely Forza, one of my favorites.

Lower the price of the VERY popular Nutella for extra speading on Pancake Day or Chandeleur both coming up soon.

On a snowy Aberdeen morning the coffee cream and pastry combination does sound appealing. And would it be wrong to spread some Nutella on top?
Cheers! Gail.

There's no shortage of Nutella here in the US, you can even buy a supersize-size at a Costco Warehouse. Can I or should I confess to liking it every now and then? And Christmas candy is long gone here.

Yes, here in NJ i have leftovers from the giant size Nutella. There is a recipe for rather delicious chocolate hazelnut cookies that I like to make at Christmas.

Nutella is also in Canada. When we were flying home through Miami at security they had samples of what was not allowed and there was a big jar of Nutella someone had written no no on!

Piles of nutella in the supermarket yesterday here too. It's because it's chandeleur today. I of course will be taking the moral high ground and using my local artisanal hazelnut paste (who once upset Nutella so much they sued). The round pastry up the top btw is a Paris Brest, with hazelnut cream filling, not coffee (normally anyway).

Nutella. Gorged on the stuff while pregnant with my second, 25 years ago. At that time, the product came in reusable drinking glasses instead of jars. I think I had 18 by the time I delivered! Oddly enough that child loves his Nutella!
