Mango and pepper.

The mountains shrouded in clouds this morning. Warmer now and brighter when we head out of the gate. The year fast heading towards springtime.

Our morning trip to the little market town interrupted by the arrival of a group of motor cyclists. Sophie isn't bothered. Bob is. Something about the mass rasp of exhausts that unsettles him. We retreat back to the car. The motor cyclists appear to be an entire family. Grandfather, grandmother, father, mother and two teenage youths.

While the dogs guard the car Angus buys bread from the organic lady. He also buys a croissant to share with the angelic duo.

A young woman , she can barely be twenty, has opened up a cake store in what used to be the undertakers. The premises have been empty for at least two years. This is her first week. The little white rose shaped cakes are lychee and basil. She's making red heart shaped Valentines Day cakes which are mango and pepper. I buy a little pear tart for 'The Font' and a chocolate and caramel thing for me. I admire the young woman's entrepreneurship but wonder if her tastes aren't a little advanced for this conservative rural clientele. We shall be regular customers.

Back at home Bob jumps on and off and on and off the garden grooming table. He doesn't want to be groomed, he just wants to let me know he can fly. Finally, he settles down with a fresh stick to chew. Then he falls asleep. A family boys life is exhaustingly full.

Will you (or perhaps me likely 'The Font') be trying the lychee and basil next time?

Angus may taste it indirectly when 'The Font ' takes one mouthful, says 'wonderful' and then passes it to me. I shall let you know.

The new cakes look impressive. Like you I am unlikely to be convinced by modern combinations of flavours.

I do love Bob though.

February must be the month for bikers, no matter where you live. A friend of mine in Arizona begins the Women’s freedom ride where they will meet up with 10,000-ish other women bikers from around the country in Topeka. I wonder how many canine-bikers will be with them?

I enjoy strawberries and black pepper - I must try shaking some on my mango today, dispensing with the 'cake' part of the equation! YAM xx

I fear her tastes may be a touch too Parisian for a conservative farming community.

Many years ago our worst ever family holiday was in Arizona in January. It poured with rain. Our rental car got stuck in mud and we discovered native american reservations aren't anything like Holywood would have you believe. Hope your friend has a better time and better weather.

Let us know if it works. As a cake filling probably not.

Yes well ... we'll put this one into the "interesting" basket, shall we? Yxx
