Rare and rarer.

6:01 am. Furry Fox and Bob are waiting at the front door to get the day started.  Today Furry Fox accompanies Bob on his morning walk.  As we proceed along the lane Bob sometimes gets distracted by fresh badger scents. This means that on a couple of occasions we have to head back to where he's absentmindedly dropped his friend. This adds ten minutes to our walk.

Sophie has no such constraints. She rushes ahead to see the donkeys only to find that they've wandered down to the bottom of their field. She stops to look at them. They unsurprisingly see no need to walk back up the hill to see her.

Cold but bright. The sun actually warm. No one has told the locals this. The little towns market place remains resolutely deserted. Only a solitary Scotsman and two shaggy dogs sharing a croissant dare to brave the weather at an outside table.

The Belgian Lady phones to say it's The Old Farmers birthday. He's 87. She's hosting a small surprise gathering '' Just a glass or two of champagne " at 11:30. 'Could we please come along ?' I say we'd be delighted.

You learn something new every day. A very rare meteorological event : https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-wiltshire-47108382

And this article mentions an even rarer event - a moonbow :

I've never heard of moonbows, but this is clearly something I need to add to my quest list. I hope the Old Farmer had a lovely birthday.

Does the Old Farmer know that birthday wishes are hurtling his way from all corners of the globe?
The thing about taking doudous out of the house is that they often get dropped.
I was often entertained by the Milky Way when I lived in Africa. One of the great disappointments of our village in France is that we have all the inconveniences of being out of a city (no museums, have to drive to do anything or to buy anything) yet we don't have peace (busy departementale cuts through the village and we're awakened by gunshots--from hunters--all winter) and there's so much light pollution we barely see the stars.

A very happy birthday to the Old Farmer, and many more.
When I lived in rural Maine, it was far enough from everything that at night you could see the Milky Way spread out across the black sky. Incredible.
