A final dinner at a roof terrace restaurant before heading home. Warm until eight and then Angus has to return to the hotel to pick up jackets and coats to stave off the bitter breeze from the caldera. Despite the hordes of Chinese tourists in the street below we are the only diners.
Up early . Stavros has to shuttle back and forwards to the airport for connecting flights.
Outside two characterful island residents.
When I said in a recent post that island dogs didn't chase island cats I was wrong . These two hurtle down the narrow main street, howling, whenever a C-A-T appears. They do not stop, or divert, for humans.
A farewell to the hotel. The room was minimalist in the extreme. The Font thinks this is very Greek. Angus thinks it's like sleeping in a rock tomb.
Later today, assuming we survive Stavros and his driving technique, Bob and Sophie will be reunited with their humans.

The white dog looks like he might have a bit of PON in the family tree? Your photos of the island rooftops today remind me very much of a print that hangs in our family doctor's office. I've been looking at the rooftops in that print for nineteen years now while visiting the doctor with one sick kid or another, always thinking "someday I'd like to go there." Your posts from the past few days gave me a few things to process on that front, but today's photos have helped restore my dream. Looking forward to hearing about the reunion!

Borderline austere, that minimalism. As long as you slept well and are returning recharged and heat stored in your body ready for winter... YAM xx
A beautiful view of the island. It is a shame that you were the only diners, but a nice way to enjoy the evening. It must be quite the hike to get up to the top of the island.
Thankfully we were already at the top. Climbing 300 steps two or three times a day soon loses its appeal !
Santorini - unless my memory serves me wrongly? Were there no donkeys to take the overweight tourists from the cruise ships up those 300 steps?
The cool, rather minimalist room would be a welcome respite from the intense heat during the summer months. If the bed was on a concrete plinth, then yes, it's very Greek !
If you want to experience sleeping in a rock tomb, try the Trulli houses in Puglia, but, as you lived in Italy for a while, you may have done so.
We hope you survive Stavros' driving technique and are now reunited with Bob and Sophie. Tomorrow, sitting on the storm drain, you can tell them all about your enjoyable holiday. A welcome change from the shenanigans of international politics !
I just knew it couldn't be true about the dogs not chasing cats...
Safe travels home.
Toodle pip!

How lovely! I've always wanted to go to Greece. If I ever get to go, on the travel itinerary for me would have to be a visit to a longtime blogging friend who has a cat rescue/sanctuary in Syros. Some of them are pretty tough and resilient cats, with harrowing stories to tell, that include ones of being chased.
I hope all is well upon your return!
Looking forward to reunion pictures and stories with Bob and Sophie! Congratulations on surviving Stravos. Your vacation pictures are stunningly beautiful! Each a ‘post card’ telling its own stories. Welcome Home!
