Unusual volumes.

Brief but severe turbulence over the Alps causes the copilots windscreen to shatter.  This means a return to London and a night in an airport hotel followed by an entertaining saga of non-existent connections and lost luggage.

The island, when we get here, is full of sleepy dogs.

They would chase equally sleepy island cats but can't be bothered to.

There is a bookstore.

Which has an unusual collection of English language volumes.

'The Font' has arranged for a local driver to shepherd the family around in a mini van. His name is Stavros. Stavros is of indeterminate age, has a beard that an owl could nest in and considers himself to be Gods gift to womankind. We know this because whenever we pass a female of any age, shape or creed he leans out of the window, shouts out things in Greek and gesticulates wildly and passionately. Oncoming traffic, bends in the road and lane discipline all forgotten in his selfless pursuit of love. 'The Font' describes Stavros as a bon viveur. Angus thinks a shorter way of saying this is 'alcoholic'.

A first edition Catcher in the Rye for €7.50? Seems a bargain. That bookstore looks like paradise. So does the cat's view.
The question for Stavros is whether any member of womankind wants to give him even a minute of their attention? It sounds doubtful.
You must be beyond the big storm coming in off the Mediterranean. We have been told to expect three months' worth of rain today. It's a year, almost to the date, since the deadly floods of last year. Everyone is on edge. A 100-year flood last year, a 100-year flood three years ago, a 100-year flood in 1999....it starts to go beyond a fluke. But my relatives in the US still think climate change is a hoax.

We have to get our news from The Old Farmer but as of yesterday the village remains rainless.

Sleepy dogs - and cats - Sophie wouldn't like living there! What's a girl to do if she can't chase cats? Doubtful she'd allow the cat to admire the beautiful view in your second photo.
Your weather in Greece is so much better than here - two days of torrential rain and very high winds. The onset of winter, possibly, although we hope for more sunshine later in the week. I have the heating on this morning for the first time in seven, maybe eight, months.
It seems your choice of Greece for a very late holiday was a very good idea!

Love the bookshop. But Bertie finds it hard to believe that a DOG might not bother to chase a CAT...
Cheers, Gail.
PS The weather in Bavaria was beautiful too.

While I wished Vacation Adventures for you, the ones you have listed, are not what I had in my mind! The dog, cat, bookstore, beautiful weather and awesome views are more along the wishes I was thinking for you! Stavros? ! ? !

What a fabulous bookstore. Would get lost in that for a few hours. Reminds me of the Aussie joke, 'it was so hot, the dog was chasing the cat and they were both walking.'

What an unusal collection of prices for books on display behind a piece of string, or have I lost something in translation about how much the Euro is worth? Loved your picture of the cat. Enjoy your Santorini holiday!

I do hope you snatched that copy of the SAVOY COCKTAIL BOOK - I've had it for years, and it is a gem! Come home safe and sound......the Angelic Duo must be counting the hours by now. I am not sure that they will agree that a shattered windscreen in the cockpit was reason enough for you to delay the homecoming! We have all missed you! Welcome home soon, from the rainy Westcoast of Canada.
