Tearing up a speech.

Cold but bright. Horses, geese, goats and donkeys are all ( with the exception of the horses ) greeted enthusiastically by Sophie.  A pair of fluffy red squirrels, the size of small cats, perch on the end of a plane tree branch and watch her walk by. Sophie is driven incandescent with fury. Can she see them or is it the smell ? Perhaps it's their audacity ? We stop by the storm drain and look out towards the clouds building up far away over the coast. The family princess listens as I recount the highlights of the State of the Union address. She admits that she too likes shredding speeches, or for that matter, books. On the way back home my companion pauses and carefully licks her paws. A sign that something's amiss.  Back at home she's hoisted onto the garden table so I can check between her toes for accumulated detritus. The downside of a mud loving princess.

Grass seeds and dried mud quickly removed with a few deft snips of the scissors. After that the village diva is once again fully operational. Some dried on owl kill is cut out of her muzzle.  A small triumph of practicality over style. The great thing about grooming Sophie is that she doesn't object. She seems to view it as a form of adoration. The diva complex makes some things easier.

This mornings croissant a misshapen, dumpy looking thing that tastes like processed bread. 5.5/10.

The bakers wife is back on form. Three rather frilly looking creations appear in the display cabinet. The mandarin orange slices are once again in evidence.

By the time we make it home Sophie is looking as if she's suffering from prolonged neglect.

This hotel in Utah is really something. The architecture is very James Bond movie style : https://www.aman.com/resorts/amangiri

As my Japanese husband says almost every morning as I recount the overnight news, "Why can't SHE run for president?"
That is some hotel - who knew there was an Aman resort in Utah?

Bertie is pleased that Sophie's paws are being well attended to. As a past sufferer of painful interdigital cysts, he now appreciates the value of the thorough paw clean. Or at least he should! Cheers, Gail.

I'm sure Bertie sits calmly still while having his paws checked !

Did you read the NYT article about Deutsche Bank and Trump? Interesting. I remember when Ackermann was considered a genius.
The economy is on a sugar high that is going to turn ugly. I am surprised it hasn't happened yet, but more sugar keeps getting added. Will it happen before November? I hate to see my retirement go up in smoke (although I believe much of it is smoke and mirrors), but I hate even more the thought of four more years.

"The mandarin orange slices are once again in evidence." Not to mention, a whole lemon decorating the meringue!!! Great article today. YAM xx

The alleged Deutsche Bank relationship will keep constitutional historians entertained for many a year to come. Thank heavens German banking secrecy (after the experience of 1933 ) is inviolable and sacrosanct.

The delicate lemon slices would not be out of place in a bakers in Stornoway.

I'm told the one in Wyoming is stunning although arguable even more difficult to get to. Probably targeted at a demographic that has access to the corporate Gulfstream.

Poor Sophie, she really does have quite a few bad hair days. Perhaps next time she has a bath, her shampoo could be followed by a conditioner, to make her fur smooth and silky? If you tell her that it will make her even more beautiful, she won't object!

Shampoo followed by conditioner could be pushing our luck.

DO try a leave-in oatmeal conditioner - much easier to apply and works a treat!
