The court case.

Cooler today. Much cooler. What a relief after last weeks tarmac melting heat. Dog and master head off along the top of the ridge in the dark. We sit on the storm drain and look out across the valley as the sun daydreams into the sky . Sophie is given an ear scrunch and told, as she's told every morning, that this is her home. She leans into me. Then, having said 'good morning ' to the donkeys we head off down to the stream for a lengthy and noisy drink. Difficult to say who enjoys this routine more; Angus or Sophie. Peak holiday season here. No cars to disturb our reveries.

Back in the village we stop to check the scarecrows on the village green. All four are still wearing masks.

This, we think, is the week of the court case between the man with anger management issues and the German billionaires builder. We are doing our best to show 'disinterest' in the proceedings. Madame Bay is keeping us up to speed with the village intrigue. People are taking sides over the hedge felling. We continue to pursue our strategy of ' No speakee the French so good  ' strategy of claiming that it's all too complicated for foreign folk to understand.  This seems to be working - so far.

Maintaining Swiss-style neutrality is definitely to be recommended but can be challenging. My last London home was a flat in an old Victorian property in Highgate, where the residents of the other two flats were at permanent war - legal bills mounted ever higher and death threats were even issued at one point. I am ever thankful to have escaped becoming embroiled in that situation...
Sophie is looking splendid posed on 'her' ridge this morning.
Cheers, Gail.

Agree with Gail, maintaining neutrality is best in situations that can come become quickly volatile. However in this time of little news other than that of the virus, you must admit that the court case does offer a change of conversation. And it's happening in your tiny village! Who would have thought that such big city ways could reach so far into France Profonde?
Sophie is looking particularly spry today, and sensibly ignoring those scarecrows.

Nothing quite so uncomfortable as being sandwiched in an argument. Neutrality can be waring... Being a dog at such times has distinct advantages! YAM xx

Glad that the temperatures are more bearable for you.

For a scarecrow, the one on the bench seems to be very well dressed. Sometimes just being the smiling foreigner is a good strategy.
