The masks return.

Cooler this morning. Sophie and her master have a leisurely break of day stroll round the village. The overly enthusiastic black labrador that shares a house with the 'tikes' bounds over. Sophie makes it quite clear that she is not pleased to see him. He retreats - still bounding. Overnight all the scarecrows on the village green have had masks fitted . Will the new mayor come along and de-mask them ?

On our walk down to the stream the family diva is in one of her sniff every flower, smell every tree moods. Progress is 'measured' while badger poo is savoured. When she discovers I've walked on ahead she powers along, head down , to catch up.  Each time this happens Sophie gives me a look that makes it quite clear that in the dog ownership stakes I have much to learn.

Time to clamber up the ramp and head off for a curly croissant end. This morning we go to the cafe that does really good croissants but serves coffee out of a machine and in a  paper cup. The croissant scores 9.5/10. The coffee fares rather less well. If bottled and sold it could come in handy stripping the chrome off a Cadillac or unblocking drains.

You know you're in France when the oven chips in the frozen food store are prepared in duck fat.

We also pick up on some  Yakitori as pre-dinner snacks

You must have been forgiven - Sophie looks very happy perched in the back of the car. I am fascinated by your Japanese selection today - I have never actually seen frozen sushi before - or frozen yakitori or edamame or actually any of it other than the mochi ice cream for that matter. None of this appears in our local Picard, although I did find some frozen Canadian lobsters there yesterday.

Lovely photo of the village this morning.
I could go for oven chips prepared in duck fat. Maybe there were goose fat ones somewhere in the freezer too?
Too bad about the paint stripper coffee...
Cheers, Gail.

Somebody (not the new mayor) clearly understands, and wishes to message, that the benefits of wearing masks now outweigh the negatives! YAM xx

Does Sophie get the ends off of that baguette too? Just wondering...

She would love to.

Subversives in the village.

Always interesting that it's difficult to get a bad coffee in Italy. That doesn't hold true in France where it's a touch and go process.

I'd assumed a Japanese Picard would be the natural home for their Japanese range. There again this could be a French take on Japanese cuisine.
