Too hot to write.

Hot again. We're out at six thirty in what should be the cool morning air. Sophie follows along at her own pace. At this time of the day the path is still full of fresh deer and fox scents which Sophie needs to savour. Our progress is leisurely.

It's far from cool. the sun barely up and its already 26 degrees and claggy. When we get down into the valley we find that the stream and waterfall have finally given up the ghost. Sophie gives me that unmistakable ' Do something !' look. This is the same look she gives me when the yogurt pot refuses to refill itself.

We wander, slowly, back up the ox track to The Rickety Old Farmhouse.  Sophie gets a frozen strawberry yogurt cube and has a drink that goes on forever. Soon we'll put all the windows down in the little car and head off for our morning croissant.

So starts at scorching Saturday in deepest, deepest France profonde. A day when it's too hot to think.... or blog.

Great pictures of dogs in todays WaPo : https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/lifestyle/2020/08/21/dogs-coronavirus-anecdotes/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_dogs-anecdotes-555pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory-ans&itid=hp_hp-top-table-main_dogs-anecdotes-555pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory-ans

I'm sure this will be a best seller and spawn a 4 program series on PBS .Harvards top astronomer thinks aliens have coming visiting.  :  https://www.amazon.com/Extraterrestrial-First-Intelligent-Beyond-Earth/dp/0358278147/ref=sr_1_1

Croissant lovers will wish to go here when travel is once again easy. In the meantime click on the patisserie button and marvel at the 'framboise and lait d'amandes'  : https://www.gourmand-croquant.com/fr/

Very evocative word, "claggy." I'd never seen it before, but I looked it up and it seems perfectly descriptive. Can't imagine why we don't have a word like that in Japanese, given the way our summers are. Here it's always just "mushiatsui" - steaming hot.

Love the WaPo article. Bertie has started stalking me since lockdown in a way he never really did before.

Sadly it seems I couldn't access the WaPo article without taking out a subscription first, and Amazon seemed to think I should change my address if I wanted to buy the book you recommended! However I did manage to access your last recommendation - and have it translated automatically into English. On a sultry day like today, one out of three is a good result!
Finally we have a nice cooling breeze, but it's still 33ÂșC indoors in the parts of the house the sun has reached, even with shutters and blinds closed, and Inca is seeking out the coolest tiles.

Cooler here today - thank heavens. The grey cells only partially addled.

I liked the article in the Post, thanks for sharing!

I know what you mean about the heat, it has been a brutal summer, but we've had plenty of rain. I wish that California would get some of it for the fires.
