A 20 kilometre cross country run is due to come through the village this morning. It was originally scheduled to be held in a town close to Toulouse but due to the surge in infections and the imposition of a nine 'til six curfew it's been rescheduled for our little corner of paradise. The new mayor is unsure how many runners there will be but thinks it will be in the ' high hundreds'.
A group of serious men arrive at first light to hammer in signs and put up trestle tables. Quite why so many people should be gathering during the midst of a pandemic is something of a mystery. The course comes through the village and then takes a sharp right turn to take it along the ox track and down to the stream. After the heavy rain in the middle of last week the ox track is very wet and slippery.
Sophie has sniffed all the signs, checked the trestle tables for Jaffa Cakes and is now looking forward to observing the passing runners from the distant safety of The Rickety Old Farmhouses garden. Before the runners arrive she and her master will head off to the greengrocers and pop into the drive thru bakery for a croissant.

No doubt Sophie will be barking her encouragement to the runners. After all, who knows, one of them might drop a Jaffa cake, later to be retrieved.
This sounds like a lot of excitement for a Sunday morning in your usually quiet village. Sophie looks set to make the most of whatever comes her way.
We hope that the runners will enjoy your beautiful scenery, though it's doubtful they will even admire the view. So sad - particularly at this time when so many people can't go out of doors, let alone run a cross country race. I wonder if there will be many followers today - or are they banned? Not that it seems to bother the majority.

Gracious - I trust Angus will be able to record at least one photo for posterity of the apocolyptic runners... YAM xx
Strange times for opening hotels.
Having stayed at The White Elephant Nantucket, I can assure you that every facet will be perfection. It looks perfectly situated to take Mar-a-largo's place in PB ;-) Marathons are more fun when you watch for and root for your kids along the way..
All the runs here have been made virtual. Not worth the risk.
'Tis the season. We had 100's of people (and a few dogs) doing a "volksmarch" for Octoberfest in our town. I drove past, and while the festival was cancelled, the walk for charity wasn't. People socially distanced, and were wearing masks. So I'm hopeful it wasn't a "super-spreader event." I'll hope the one that came through your village wasn't either.
