Order.

We watch a little of the Olympics opening ceremony. Maybe it's the lack of crowds, maybe its the acoustics of an empty stadium but after twenty minutes I find we're getting bored. Sophie is more than  happy to get up and go and sit outside by the pool. Why be indoors watching television when you can be outside keeping an eye open for C-A-T-S ?

This morning the lingering humidity and a lengthy detour through the sunflower fields combine to give Sophies coat a 'carefree' air.

At the crossroads sunflower fields to the left, right and straight ahead. Peak sunflower season is upon us.

This morning there's a young horse in a head shroud at the next door neighbours farm. Although it can't see it trots over towards us. I'm sure there's a good reason for the head shroud but it's a rather sad thing to see on a summers morning.

After a drink from the waterfall and a paddle in the stream dog and master head off to the bakers.

A  'Religieuse' and a coffee eclair our choices this morning. Sophie hopes that the bakers wife will go back into the kitchen for some choux pastry but she's disappointed. I also buy a slice of peach pie. This is for The Old Farmer who has returned to living in the village full time. The heat and pandemic have put paid to the relationship with his 'lady friend' . ' I needed some space ' he informs me. This morning I shall help him get his house in order .

I understand, from what an English horse-owning friend tells me, that some horses are particularly sensitive to the bites of insects, and also to something called "Sweet itch", and are provided with protection to keep the the flies away. The horse would have been able to see you, although I guess not very clearly. Fortunately it is not a common problem over here in New Zealand.

Feeling a little sad for the Old Farmer, although one suspects that the Lady Friend might also have felt the need for "some space" after too many trip in the motorhome!
Cheers, Gail (who has crossed the border into England for the first time in 16 months and, along with Bertie, is mightily relieved that the heat here has now dissipated.)

I had a chat with the farmer about this ( literally two minutes ago ) and he tells me it's to keep a particulalry irritating fly from bothering the horses eye ducts.

Congratulations on making it south of the border !
At the age of 90 The Old Farmer is probably set in his ways and both parties might be ready for a little 'space'.

The Olympics opening ceremony last night was kind of depressing, but your "Religieuse" has cheered me right up again. I am sure the Old Farmer appreciated the peach pie.

I suspect that the Old Farmer and his lady friend have done well to stay together as long as they have. Close confinement in an aging motor home, filled with an excess of the lady's clothes, were sure to put a great strain on the relationship. Time for them to enjoy a little personal space.
This morning Inca was taken on a walk to an area she's never been to before. Lots of new smells, with joggers and other dog walkers to avoid! I think she enjoyed herself - I know I did, a change of scene makes such a difference. We'll definitely go there again.

I watched the opening ceremony in full and found it delicate, moving and entirely in keeping with state of the world at the moment. My only disappointment was the use of actual fireworks instead of lasers, which would have been equally effective and much more in keeping with the green credentials claimed. Oh, and Bach could've shortened his speech.

I hope Angus doesn't have to do too much for the OF that might cause body twinges... YAM xx

The fly "face masks" do indeed provide the horses great relief from the annoying face flies. It you look through one yourself, it's like looking through the screen on a window. The horses seldom have any difficulty getting used to wearing them. Here in the Midwest of America it's peak face fly season also.

How nice to have your neighbor back! Maybe he'll start feeding the C-A-T-S again and Sophie won't have to work so hard to keep your yard cleared of the beasts!

Glad you are there to assist the Old Farmer. Both order and peach pie will be welcome, I'm certain. I also enjoy the names of some of the pastries, e.g., une religieuse.

Sophie, sunflowers and French pastries! What more could one want? Angus, I believe you celebrated a birthday this past week. A little late, but I'm wishing you a happy year ahead. Thank you for your blog par excellence!
