Progress.

Monday afternoon spent watching the British Prime Minister explain to parliament why he was partying while the rest of the country was in lockdown. The popular fury that has developed over his behaviour is unexpected but interesting. Perhaps 'we're all in this together' is still a strong part of the national psyche ? Electorates, wherever they are, don't like to be treated as second class citizens .

Loic shows up to blow leaves. He launches into a lengthy story. I listen attentively, make suitably interested noises, but catch only half of what's being said. It seems that the home where he stays is about to have a makeover -  new furniture has been ordered. What I fail to catch is whether this has arrived or is yet to be delivered .

It's still wet and misty although the temperatures are rising. 2 degrees this morning rather than the sub zero readings we've suffered in the last week. There is a reason people choose to live  in  the winter warmth of Provence rather than up here close to chill Atlantic storms.

250,000 cases yesterday. That's down 17% from a week ago-  progress of sorts. At this rate we may consider hoping back to London for a day or two in mid-March.

Sophie returns from our morning expedition around the village looking rather the worse for wear. She has pursued black and white C-A-T into the laurel hedge. She emerges sporting the plastered down fur look. I towel her dry. She then takes to following me round the house.

After ten or so minutes she's returning to that classic ' Can't do a thing with it'  PON look.

Achingly beautiful biscuits. Probably the strangest thing I've seen this year. I'd frame them rather than eat them :https://ellahawkins.com/biscuit-art/

Last nights pretend dinner menu - perhaps more memorable for the decor and the bar made from pewter - than the food:https://www.firmdalehotels.com/hotels/new-york/the-whitby-hotel/the-whitby-bar-restaurant/

Poor Sophie, her hair really does suffer in this weather.
Did the PM (or his inventive speech writer) convince everyone why he had a good reason to party with his pals, when everyone else in the country was locked away at home?
Those biscuits really are a true work of art, so I hope they taste as good as they look. Not particularly impressed with either the décor or the food at The Whitby Hotel. The food doesn't look particularly appetising, especially the plateful of what look like garden weeds! Perhaps they are? Those baskets must be an absolute dust trap.

Apparently the British government were surprised at how carefully most of the population followed even the most onerous lockdown restrictions. Now we know why they were surprised. I find it heartening that at least a good proportion of the population still appears to expect leadership by example.
Cheers, Gail.
PS As yet another storm blows in, Bertie continues to wear the 'can't do a thing with it' look.
PS Bertie

The longer my hair gets, the more I know just how the Diva feels.
