It starts to rain the very minute the removal van trucks show up at the front door .
It stops raining the very minute they leave. What are the chances of that ?
Nothing quite as relaxing as shifting furniture in the rain .
Sophie has been confined to the garden hut while the team are hard at work. As soon as they go she's raring to head off to the beach to see the seals.
A few breakages but nothing too important . An old butter dish in the shape of a cow doesn't survive. Nor does a nice little Edinburgh made Georgian side table . Today will be spent preparing the paperwork for the insurance company. There is also the issue of changing over the plugs on all the electrical equipment to British three pins from French two pins. Sophie seems to find the whole process to be great fun. Her folks less so.

Do check everything carefully, Angus. A couple of moves ago our men carefully stood a half-round side table where they thought it would look ok, and when I moved it, as they were rushing to their van, a leg came off... carefully shoved back in place. I'd just signed the "all is fine" paper, so I rushed out and made them acknowledge it was not! I'm super careful since.
It's hard to lose things after you just sorted through everything in the ROF and kept only those things that you really wanted to keep. The last time we moved, it was me who caused the worst damage, when I knocked the topknot off my most beloved Han Dynasty horse. We stuck it back on, and he looks fine, so while certainly less valuable now, he is no less beloved. Your new sky views are quite amazing, very different from France but still beautiful.
You seem to have got off fairly lightly if there are just two damaged items.
When we moved here almost everything apart from the dogs' beds, personal items and the tumble dryer, went into storage whilst the house was extended. When the furniture was finally delivered, after almost a year, we found our two fairly new sofas were ruined by floodwater and various items of glass and china smashed. Not to mention things that had gone missing. The insurance company agreed to a pay-out of just over 100 GBP, when an independent assessment put the figure at well over 3,000 GBP. A few months later the highly recommended company went into liquidation!
There must be a rain cloud in Scotland that settles over wherever a house move is taking place. We had exactly the same here in Moray on Tuesday when some of our items were delivered. We only had a bed, a sofa and a Swedish cabinet delivered (with a small scratch which has disappeared with beeswax polish). But the rest is is storage in two containers according to whether it comes on here once our renovation is finished, or goes to the flat we've bought in Edinburgh. We did all the packing of china and other small items ourselves, so we'll see what that results in! Probably over-packed and we could have saved on container space. Hope the plug changing is finished now.
I thought I would miss my daily visit to France but, thanks to you and Google Street view, have fallen in love with St Andrews and the surrounding area. Have you noticed that the Elie Deli says it bakes fresh croissants every morning. Just a thought although Sophie seems quite content without them!! Angela

I, too, have a horror story of damaged and missing goods (yes, two entire boxes disappeared from the 14 sent) from my OZ-UK transfer... as ever, the insurance was a complete and total waste of time, and the premium paid would have covered replacements anyway. Which I have never attempted because, really, when am I ever going to use a Noritake dinner set or crystal goblets... clearly someone thought they would.
Anyway - now for you to settle everything in its place... YAM xx
It is good to have one of you in the fun column.
Ahhhh, you are home. It is real now.
The scenes are beautiful and seeing Sophie fit right in with the newness to everyone. So happy for you all.
I am getting so much vicarious pleasure reading about your move. I know it's a lot of work, (the reason so many of us stay put), but the pay-offs can be wonderful. I'm with Sophie...I'd be off on a seal hunt at every opportunity.
Can the butter dish be glued and just be used to look ar? I hope it can.
Those skys are quite amazing! Is the difference from being on the ocean or just that you're so much further north? Can't wait to see the new digs!
Oh that's a shame. I hope both can be repaired.
You both must be very tired and deserve a glass of something nice. Were there any available cost centres to assist?
Sleep well!
My cat has a tendency to knock breakable things off shelves. I refer to it as involuntary decluttering.
Well now you can indeed drop anchor and get settled into your Scottish home. Perhaps one of your best bottles of champagne shared with the Font will be in order later today.
Welcome back to Scottish weather...
