The bed

The saga with the fancy new bed continues. It is supposed to be here tomorrow. Angus phones up the workshop to make sure everything is going as planned.  ' It's August, Good luck with that' says 'The Font' unhelpfully.

The latest communication with the Parisian shipping guy ( who I think might be on the beach in Corsica sipping a Martini )  has a certain 'let's not be too specific' charm to it. He sends me an e-mail in English. The e-mail quietly demolishes any hope that we'll see the bed anytime soon.

' Bonjour Angus

I have been on it since we spoke last time.

I am pushing for you to be delivered next week.

They are closed today but I should have the final date tomorrow '.

A new complication enters the picture. The bed we ordered can be seen in the first photo. The bed that shipping guy wants to deliver has surprisingly morphed into the rather non-Presbyterian second one with a headboard out of a Hammer House of Horrors movie. There has been what is known in bed shipping circles as a mix-up.

No prizes for guessing that today will be spent on the phone trying to 'rectify'  things.

Oh my!!! By the time you finally get the (correct) bed, Sophie will have become completely urbanized in St. Andrews.

What about just CANCELLING the whole order, and getting one from another provider?

OK, thanks. So now we know not to order a bed from 'Treca'. That second headboard certainly is a horror.
One feels this saga will run and run...

I must admit, I'm with Virginia - I'd be cancelling and buying local. But then, I am not Angus and The Font. YAM xx

I agree with Gail; of all the possible mistaken substitutions, the palm trees are the worst!

My first thought on seeing the first photo was "Oh, the bed's arrived, it does look smart!" I should know better, shouldn't I?
I'm in the cancel and buy local team, but don't know if you've already paid a hefty deposit, or the full amount up front.
Meanwhile - all is well in Sophie's world and that's the most important thing.

Time for a refund? Good luck - we admire your optimism.

I don't know if Sophie could find rest in that much tropical print.

Hi - Cancelling would be an option were it not for the enormous deposit and progress payments !

You just gave me my laugh of the day. There's something about that tropical print that puts me into a fit of giggles...especially when it was not requested.

The second bed took my breath away. And I still can't get it back....I wonder WHAT will be shipped, as we can see the possibilities are endless.

P.S. Cancel the order and have a bed made to measure....but that mattress. Maybe you can just buy it on its own?

Argh! What a horrible situation. I guess you will have to wait and wait to get what you want. Is temporarily relocating the bed in St Andrews to the new house a possibility?

Oh MY! Love the bed you chose. BUT, not only the fabric but the headboard shape is horrifying on the 2nd choice.
It could be a good thing to name drop the famous designer that bought your house.

You need to dig deep into your sense of humor to deal with this situation.

Seeing all of those trees, on the 2nd bed, would make me want to go and plant something - not sleep.

Well . . . The second bed might be OK in your garden?!?

First world problems indeed.

Me again - more thoughts on the bed. I wonder if the Parisian bed-shipping guy's attitude is "They're moving to another country and it's a good excuse to offload that one with the palm trees - the one we can't shift. We can blame it on Brexit"
Just hope I'm wrong!

The second one reminded me of the Fern print linens made by Vera years ago, in not a good way.
Hoping you can find a local or somewhere in U.K. Bed and mattress purveyor who has what you need and wan.

Oh, that truly is atrocious! I love palm trees, but I can find nothing to love in that second bed. Good luck, Angus!

That's likely one you might see at a Caribbean all inclusive.

In 1970.

What a mess! Good luck!

One of your commenters, tammy, told me about you years ago. I'm afraid she has just passed, and I thought you might want to know.

Would Treca's UK store, in London, be able to provide you with helpful support dealing with Paris and delivery issues of beds to Scotland?

How very nightmare inducing!

I would walk to the nearest shop and get what would service.
You gave me a fine laugh today... but then an ugh for the trouble.
