The cheek of it !
An uninspiring collection of post-weekend cakes left in the bakers display cabinet. The raspberry tart looks decidedly 'tired'. We content ourselves with croissants and a baguette.
At the cafe an affable beagle belonging to a Belgian tourist has taken the PON's spot. Sophie is not impressed. The waitress calls the beagle 'adorable' and gives him a piece of croissant. Sophie lets out a shocked noise : half whimper, half yelp. The waitress can be in no doubt that her 'regulars' are unhappy with the situation.
Things get worse. A cat has the audacity to saunter past and sit, sunning itself, in sight but out of reach. Bob howls. Bob's howl has matured into a strangely majestic sound, not unlike the noise made by a Maine lighthouse. Arrogant cat and affable beagle are still there when we hastily leave.
The PON's have discovered that not every routine is set in concrete. There will be Sea Bass for lunch. The thought of this helps restore their equanimity.

Oh dear. Poor Bob and Sophie.Tourists edging out the locals. They better get used to it.
A PONder from the Westcoast of Canada: ANGUS - did you post the last photo, with that magnificent close-up of BOB's nose……..to show us how
"out of joint" his nose truly is……..following the incidents at the Cafe? We cannot blame him. Routine, never changing, is everything to a dog!
Hope the Sea Bass lunch smoothed things out a bit. Warm regards to all!
A harsh lesson for the two little angels.
Humans can be so fickle, especially waitresses who want to make new customers feel "special"!
I don't think they have too much to worry about. The Belgian beagle will soon move on and I'm sure the two angels will be top dog again!
The world does, or SHOULD revolved AROUND them. No wonder they were dismayed.
XXXOOO Bella Roxy & Dui
My dogs can totally relate to how Bob and Sophie are feeling -- They feel the same way when a newcomer sleeps on their bed, or (heaven forbid) gets fed before they do!
I think I still may have rescued the 'Opera'.
The cat would have been the final straw for Merlin. I can't really describe the sounds he makes during such incidents. Perhaps more Scooby Doo than majestic.

Poor Bob. He looks so sad.

My boy Brownie knows exactly how it feels to see a sauntering cat just within range but just can't get to it...the noise that emits from his mouth and his straining and throwing himself with super-dog strength against the gate is amazing.
One of these days that cat is in for a surprise.
Hope the Sea Bass did the trick of making things right again in Bob and Sophie's world.
I hope the PONs weren't on short rations with the croissant this morning as they had to share with the interloper?
Those cakes look positively lovely, and lively to me. Have you ever seen the selection in a Walmart?
Who does that beagle think she is? Darn foreigners.
I know about this, my dogs don't like change.
Laughing while imagining Bob sounding like a foghorn. Off Monhegan, perhaps.
I, too, thought the cakes looked not-so-bad and the raspberry quite nice. But then, most baked products here are somewhat, um, something.
The Belgian beagle looks quite sweet though.
