A grey but mild morning. The PONs wake at six. Sophie starts her day by emitting a series of low pitched whistles. These build up over the next ten minutes until she's in full voice. This is the cue for Bob to wander into the ( out of bounds ) bedroom and poke the side of my face with his nose. That 'time to get up' moment. Sophie's hour keeping is uncanny in its accuracy and is certainly more precise than the church clock which is currently running eight minutes late.
The garage has given us a car to tide us over until the 'Loonj' is repaired. This one is an 'Up!'. It is very small, has four doors but no boot. The interior combines spartan and sombre. Angus puts the seat as far back as possible but getting in and out is still part of the Harry Houdini experience. Although it's overwhelmingly black both inside and out it has a white roof. This is presumably a design statement.
Lest anyone think that we own the thing there are stickers on the front doors that say Volkswagen Rent. It has one endearing feature - the fuel gauge seems to be stuck on full no matter how many miles we drive.
The PONs are still in their ' don't let him out of your sight' mode. Wherever Angus goes two shaggy dogs follow him.
And here is a piece to make you laugh. Never buy a pet from a friend : https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/feb/10/experience-i-accidentally-bought-a-giant-pig

One degree of separation.......take a look at BOUNCING BERTIE'S BLOG just now.........how thoughtful to send a soft collar to BERTIE, complete
with some PON 'furs' attached........to make his recuperation a bit more comfortable. Nice to think that SOPHIE no longer needs it, and even
nicer to think that it will now help poor BERTIE. All thanks to one very thoughtful ANGUS, and another very thoughtful FONT. From your #1
fan on the Westcoast of Canada. Cheers!
Thank you - the story about the pig is the greatest! I've always wanted one, but even more impractical than a PON in a Tokyo apartment. What you describe about Sophie's morning route rings so true. With Cherry, it starts at 6:50 with a low rumble that builds steadily towards an ear-splitting howl the longer you try to ignore her. Somehow, however, she is merciful on the weekend.
Do Bob and Sophie fit in the the Up! ?
A happy Sunday morning post - thank you Angus. The Up looks an ideal town car and, I hate to be sexist, probably designed with "the little woman" - (all 5'2" of her !) in mind ! I'll bet you're glad it has those stickers on the side.
What a wonderful wake-up call the PON's are - no worries if there is a power cut and the alarm doesn't go off. Can't rely on our Lab, she sleeps until we get up.
The Up! Must be VW's answer to the 106, C1 and Aygo, all of which look nearly identical. I have an Aygo because it was all I could afford, and I give Toyota credit for keeping it bare-bones. I was surprised that it has electric windows, but I realized the driver's side doesn't have the extra button for the passenger window. No problem--from the driver's seat I could easily reach the button on the right door. It ALWAYS fits in any parking space.
I've been following Esther on Twitter for some time now....Miss Piggy aside, Esther is a true porcine star.
We have an OES who does that with her nose in the morning if we are latchy getting up. We got her in Lincolnshire, and my OH refers to it as a Lincolnshire kiss
That gas gauge may not be moving because I doubt it uses much gas at all - At 6 ft tall, I know that feeling of getting out of such a small car!
The PONs look to be in fine form this week. I've kept up with your news via-phone while sitting in traffic and was sorry to hear about the Old Farmer. But with the help of friends like you and 'the font', his spirit seems to be shining through. I hope like everyone it continues through the days of healing!
It's so good hearing Bob and Sophie are doing things together sgain. Hurrah for normalcy.
Such a beautiful piece about Esther by an extraordinary gentleman. He looks past her class and her size to understand her true essence and finds something uniquely special. Their story and it's outcome is proof that miracles still do happen.
We seem to have that where-she-goes-we-follow policy here, too. So happy Both pups are ready for action. Nice of Sophie to donate her collar to Bertie!
So generous of Sophie to send her collar to Bertie. He has posted a Photo of himself wearing said collar and all he needs now is a top hat. He looks very spiffing in the collar.
