The way we like it

Cloudy and humid. There have been some humdingers of thunderstorms the last few nights. Sophie sleeps through them. Bob guards the house from the safety of the bedroom door. The Old Farmer and the Belgian lady set off on Tuesday for a trip to the coast in the venerable Ford Transit motor home. They had planned to be away for four nights but return after one. It seems the fibreglass repairs to the motor homes roof were not water proof.

Sophie notices birds. Bob is oblivious to them. Neither of them has the stealth characteristics needed to be a hunting dog. The head back and howl with delight approach would not serve them well in the wild.

This morning we avoid the bakers and the temporary dog unfriendly assistant behind the counter. Instead we go to the centre of the little town for a coffee, a shared croissant and a bowl of water. Although it's high summer the square in front of the Abbey is hardly crowded. This is the way dog owners like it.

This street art made me laugh.

I like the street art too.
Do we know how long the temp is in place at the bakers?

A month. Thankfully the PONs are happy to go anywhere for croissant slivers.

I read about the floods over your way. We had a whopper of a thunderstorm earlier this week, and since then, cloudless azure skies. However, at about 6 a.m. today a gush of water came through the open Velux. I shut it and it continued to drip. A while later, having risen, husband says it didn't rain. Indeed, I didn't hear rain on the Velux. But the room was still wet. No idea what happened. A sudden downpour like the one that got you a few days ago? The house is too high and isolated for it to have been a prank.

Ther are rumours of such rain in the UK, but it is still manifest - other than the regular grey grizzly stuff round here. (That said, today has dawned semi-bright...) Glad there is a second morning option for the PONs and their companion where friendliness remains. YAM xx

In Scotland it rains everywhere all the time. France by contrast is a country of microclimates. Our end of the village is known as the 'windy' end by the villagers who live in the 'non-windy'part. A climatic gradation that is surprising in a place with 67 inhabitants.

I, too, like the street sign. Let's hope one so young can handle all the fame. The NYTimes had an interesting piece about the Banlieues of which Mbappe is a product, so to speak. It described the steps the Macron government has taken to improve education, etc.

We all know you can't boycott the bakery for a month. There must be an alternative dessert source.

The pictures that you shared are just wonderful. It's a shame your neighbors had to cut their trip short. We had a lot of rain yesterday, but only for an hour. It's good that Bob guards the house during the storms. Sophie has to catch the zzzz's. Have a great day. We loved your post.
