We watch the school bus head off down the lane.
'The Font' is preparing for our trip to Beijing. The Pasadena Community College has an online course in scientific mandarin. This involves 'The Font' sitting in front of a computer screen and shouting answers to random questions. Sometimes the answer is correct in which case the algorithm belts out a cheerful little ditty. If the answer is wrong ( or unrecognizable as mandarin ) it makes a rather terrifying noise not unlike someone throwing a metal bar into a large piece of rotating machinery. Sophie thinks these weird and wonderful noises are marvellous. She settles down under 'The Fonts' desk and lies completely still apart from her tail which sweeps from side to side - constantly.
A detour to the motorway service station with the PONs for a coffee and a croissant. Bob likes the motorway service station for the tyre christening opportunities it presents. En route from the car park to the cafe he de-threats the front passenger side tyre of a Citroen, and the rear offside tyres of a Kia hybrid and a Renault 4x4. He will not be hurried.
The display cabinet next to the cash desk has a new collection of glass bottle stoppers. The 'Thimbles of France' collection is not selling well. In the last two years the thimbles have remained untouched. The plastic day-glo Eiffel Towers are also slow sellers but are kept waiting in readiness for any stray coach tours with money to burn. Good luck to that !
Angus wonders if Carrot Cake is forbidden for Lent. Could it be classed as a healthy life style alternative ?

Leaving aside the idea that your cleaning lady waxes the floor tiles, which sounds dangerous, but I could relate to Bob's reaction. There is a shiny red marble strip on either side of the walkway into our apartment building, about a foot and a half wide. Whenever it rains, the superintendent rushes out with mats and a sign warning people NOT to walk on the shiny red stone because it is very slippery. And every time, Cherry absolutely insists on walking on the shiny red stone for the very same reason - she clearly thinks it's hilarious to go slipping and sliding about.
I loved the video about abandoned dog. He doesn't seem to be missing his prior owners very much!

I gave a whoop for Snoop. As for the Lenten cake, Angus, carrot cake is loaded with sugar. The raspeberry tart might pass though. YAM xx
Yes indeed, the staffie video provided a most heart warming start to the day.
And I must respectfully disagree with my friends Yamini, Of course carrot cake should be allowed. As well as raspberry tart!
Cheers, Gail.
I bought quite a few of those thimbles for my mother, who collected them. And commemorative teaspoons, which she displayed in boxes hung on the wall. No idea what happened to those collections after she died.
The village "gym tonique" class is held in the preschool's activity room on Friday nights. Last week, the floor had been waxed to a brilliant shine and more than a couple of the gym ladies took a tumble. I'd really like to know what kind of wax they use, because it looks great.
Why does Angus torment himself by looking at the bakery display? To raise the Lenten penance quotient?
Haha thimbles of France. Not my type of gift. Live the pond on guard duty. They are living the good life.
Do you think maybe those "early signs" were advertising - like "St. Arbucks", "IKEA", "70-11"...
I hope Sophie does not learn to mimic the sounds of the mandarin test from the computer!
Have just seen the news. Don't know exactly where you are but hope you and all those close to you are safe.
