Can it be ?

New Years Day. Here in deepest France profonde everyone is having a lie in. That does not include the village PON owners who have been informed that it's time to get up. It also doesn't include the Manhattanites who want to know what's happening in Iran and what people think of Josh Hawley.  Snow is forecast for tonight and there's that peculiarly clear light that always heralds the arrival of a blizzard. The wind is piercingly cold.  Sophie's coat seems to have grown another two inches overnight . She is oblivious - to the point of being disdainful - of these frigid conditions.

For the family diva today is a time to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the lane taking time to sniff every tree and greet the goats and geese. Her human companion is wearing no less than seven layers but is chilled to the marrow. Sophie is told to hurry up. She feigns clinical deafness. Why shouldn't a girl enjoy a saunter in a gale ?

Back at The Rickety Old Farmhouse, Sophie is hoisted on to the table for a quick  grooming. Within ten minutes she'll look as if she's never been near a brush in her life. That default benign neglect look . Inside the house sheets are brought out in readiness to cover the carpets in the hallway should it start to snow.

What fun ! This is how dogs see the New Year :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuxC0SEN8gY

A start of 2021 thought for those brave souls who have more than a pandemic to worry about :https://twitter.com/HannaLiubakova/status/1344028989288030212

Here's an Irish version of the Scottish song linked to yesterday. The accent isn't quite right but it's close :https://youtu.be/W_6Vs8pADrQ?t=127

When this is behind us PONette and owners will head here, our favourite restaurant bar none,  to celebrate :http://troisgros.com/page_troisgros_le-restaurant

Happy New Year. We were in bed at 5 minutes past midnight and had a glorious lie in.

And a Happy New Year to you and yours. As you had a lie in it can safely be assumed there is not a PONette in the house.

Happy New Year! Here, 2021 was seen in with a small, discreet and socially distanced back yard gathering - myself and three other single neighbours. All rugged up, mulled wine under moonlight, quietly companionable.
Thanks for another excellent set of links today.
Bertie and I are both admiring Sophie's furs (which would be perfect for an outdoor Hogmanay in Aberdeen).
Cheers! Gail.

Assuming you didn't ring in the new year with pizza and Pomerol, albeit dressed up.
Took a walk this morning and noticed tourists! A sudden bounty of license plates from Spain. What are they thinking? Lots of other French departments, too, but you can never tell whether those are tourists or people visiting family (which also: what are they thinking?).

Second attempt posting. Happy New Year to all. Angus, try a drying coat for Miss Sophie. We use Ruff and Tumble brand on the Labs. Less mess everywhere.

That restaurant looks exactly like our kind of place. When life returns to normal we shall be making up for lost time in eating out. Happy New Year to you all from us, Hugo and Daisy.

Did Angus catch the vids (starting with this and three in total which were Edinburgh's offering to the year? Similar New Year weather here by the Hutch. Wearing mits on the inside indicates what would be required if one went outside... YAM xx
