Tech savvy.

We were expecting the swimming pool men to return. Mid-morning they call to say that the grey pool liner is out of stock and will need to be ordered. They'll be back ' sometime soon to fit it ' .  Angus asks when 'sometime soon ' might be. ' Probably next week ' comes the gloriously imprecise reply.

In the meantime we're left with a large hole in the garden. Sophie is disappointed . She was hoping that her new friends would show up bringing baguettes with them.

Rumours in the local paper that another , stricter, lockdown is coming. Ski resorts are closed ( a big employer here in the South ) and Disney Land in Paris has put off its re-opening from February 13th to April 2nd. The good news is that the weather is warmer , the days brighter and it's light until seven at night.

Having a PONette in the house means that the strict pandemic routine is strictly adhered to. Up early, chase C-A-T-S, drink from the stream, return home and keep a wary eye open for  more C-A-T-S, have a well deserved restorative nap. Repeat.

The blog is still being posted on the small Microsoft  laptop. The desktop has proven to be allergic to the data backup. A new desktop has been ordered. The transfer of the backup data will have to wait for the arrival of someone more tech savvy.

I sympathise with your tech problems. As we went into strict lockdown we discovered that Bill's computer, one that had huge memory and supersonic speed, was "two operating systems" behind the times, and therefore he wasn't going to be able to install the programme he had to use to lecture online ... he needed, IMMEDIATELY, a new computer, at vast expense. Fortunately IT specialists were considered "essential workers" so our wonderful geek bought a new computer and did the necessary, while we watched from afar. All within the rules. I hope they can sort your problem soon.

That getting out of the pandemic will be a long, long haul is becoming increasingly clear. At least the arrival of lighter mornings is predictable and cannot be banned!

We hope that the pool men do remember a baguette or two, when they bring the pool liner. Better still perhaps they will bring Jaffa cakes?
New restrictions started here yesterday with the closure of all non-essential services, including cafés, hotels and restaurants. We fear that another total lock down can't be far away. The other day I followed a convoy a British registered camper vans making for one of the already overflowing local 'van parks. No idea if they had just made it across the channel or had been elsewhere on the continent before arriving here. It is very worrying that we shall get an influx of tourists from virus hot spots. Yesterday there were police at all the road junctions leading into town, stopping any car with foreign plates.
For now I'm staying close to home apart from food shopping, and Inca's twice daily walk.

I saw this this morning and thought of you-Looks similar I think. We are so used to lock down now having spent one month shy of a year staying in, staying at home. So used to that I fear I am becoming agoraphobic.anyway, here is the link- 140 year old PON...

Get and cash the cheque and then, and only then, mention the problems. Rule #1 of country life.

Don't think I'd be very happy with a phalanx of Brit camper vans at the moment. France has put a quarantine requirment on travellers today but it's only for air and sea - not cars.

Kudos for the UK government for doing more than 400k vaccinations yesterday. 3m a week. Within a month at this rate the most at risk will have had their first dose and the others will have had the AZ vaccine which is great for under 55's.

The 2 year old desktop should have been easily repaired but had been downloaded in the factory with the wrong operating system. We only discover this now - which is par for the course. The replacement has arrived today, is up and running and the bookmarks bar , for a brief moment, is logically arranged.
