Lockdown coming ?

A day spent on Zoom talking to men in dark suits. The Italian government has fallen. There are riots in the Netherlands over lockdown. Stirrings of discontent about the slow vaccine roll out  in the EU are becoming evident - everywhere. The probability is that the French government will impose a further lockdown tonight.  Sophie settles down under the desk in what she considers to be silence. Silence for a PONette is a series of yawns, quiet snorts and occasional yodels. She grooms her paws.

The pool men come in the morning to pour cement for the new steps. One of the workmen asks what colour liner we want. I told his boss last week  that we wanted grey . It goes without saying that it hasn't been ordered.

In between calls Sophie and her master head down to the water park. After the heavy rains the two rivers that have their junction there are in full spate. Sophie stands and watches tree trunks rush by,

Despite the six o'clock curfew the pool men return at seven in the evening to do something to the steps they laid in the morning. They work by the light of their trucks head lamps. This , both Angus and 'The Font' agree is diligent but unusual behaviour.

Here in the UK our Prime Minister is much more keen to talk about the vaccine roll-out than he is about the dreadful fact that, with over 100,000 people now dead from Covid-19, the country has the world's highest mortality per head of population (according to the John's Hopkins database). Terrible times. Our pets help keep us from despair, although a £250k fish would not work for me...

On C Dans l'Air, they were talking about how strictness ahead of the holidays was accepted because there was a goal and it was in sight. Nobody wants a return of last spring. I see neighbors coming and going quite late, getting visitors even after dark; it's quickly becoming n'importe quoi.
Re the fish: I am sick of rich people messing up the planet. It's bad enough that overpopulated masses are messing it up just trying to live, but it's worse that an elite few do even more damage and for what? Status. Excuse me while I puke.

Not a collector or admirer of pet fish but I bet they'd be delicious with butter and squeeze of lemon. Sorry, was having a trapped by Covid moment and couldn't resist. In truth, I fully agree with Taste of France and am beyond weary of greedy buggers mucking up the planet because they have the entitlement of wealth. The appointment is set but I won't receive my first "jab" until a full month from now due to vaccine shortages and quotas per state. The 2nd one comes four weeks after. That brings me to April. What joy is mine.

Sophie looking more and more beautifully shaggy by the day. Perhaps the weather will stay cold so that she can stay that way.
Have just learned that a wonderful doctor, a specialist I see on occasion, has died from Covid. On my last visit in July, we bumped elbows in greeting, and he laughed as he said "isn't this crazy!" Now he's gone at 67. So sad.

Even in the wild hair shots, you can tell that Sophie is not a girl to be trifled with! The first one is a definite "Who, me?"
It's been a glorious day here today, with wall to wall sunshine, blue skies and temperatures in the mid 20º's - so easy to forget that the world is in crisis. This afternoon Inca and I took a long walk around the neighbourhood, making the most of the weather. Such a contrast from this time last week when it was 3ºC. I'm sure we will pay for this, but we'll enjoy it whilst we can. No doubt there is another lockdown just below the horizon, as all the cafés, restaurants, hotels and non-essential businesses in the entire region have been closed until at least the middle of February.
Some people obviously have more money than sense, no matter how much it cost, a fish is hardly good company at times like this!

As long as no hands are poking through the concrete, all is well.

We are just coming out of a lockdown here in Los Angeles. Things were truly dire a couple of weeks ago. On a personal note, I got my first jab on Monday (no side effects aside from a little soreness). The giddiness, excitement and sense of joy driving to get the shot were unexpected but welcome. In three weeks I get #2.

I just don't know what the answer is. We are under pretty strict lockdown and it works. We just can't trust people to be careful. Sadly I heard today that 50% of Canadians believe at least 1 Covid conspiracy. Sigh.
