The trendy young folk in London introduced me to this topic :https://iai.tv/articles/why-we-should-worry-about-computer-suffering-auid-1761
We don't know this brand but having lost a dog to ticks we'll carry on using these. Having super long hair may be a safety factor :https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/investigations/2021/03/02/seresto-dog-cat-collars-found-harm-pets-humans-epa-records-show/4574753001/

Lucky Sophie - Inca thinks it's actually worth having a vet's appointment - just for the sheer pleasure of having it cancelled!
Interesting second article this morning Angus. Over the years all our dogs have worn Scalibor collars, recommended by our vet, and don't seem to have suffered any side effects. When I bathed Inca on Tuesday, I removed the collar and noticed that she had lost some hair along the back of her neck. This may just be general "wear" because she hasn't suffered any other worrying symptoms. She's due for a new one later this month, so I'll keep a closer eye on her - just in case.

Thought this was interesting about the collars... about to teach flea control to my new class so thought I should investigate further. I have been known to mention how lucky we are not to have your tick problem down here !
Conscious suffering of computers? Oh no, one more thing to worry about!
Bertie says to tell Sophie she should consider herself lucky she doesn't get he paws washes almost every day...
PON hair is so thick and luxuriant you could lose a lot and still not notice !
We've never had any problems with the Scalibor collar and with so many wild deer around its an insurance policy we won't give up lightly.
To get paw washes requires catching Sophie off guard. A rare event.

Fascinating article re AI... One line, though, elucidates of being a human being..."a comparably small number of sentient beings will be ethically responsible for the quality of life of a much larger number of sentient beings in the future." Never mind AI, think climate and all that exists within it.
Aww, Sophie, not a spa gal, eh? YAM xx
The article regarding suffering computers was indeed fascinating. I'd never heard of the Scalibor collar, but we are just thinking about what to do with Charlie regarding ticks. We used Frontline for Cherry, but our vet had at one point mentioned a new alternative, which I thought was an oral medication. I only found a tick on Cherry once, very early on down by the beach, but it was not so long after your tragedy and it put me well on notice. Thank you for the Dolly video!
We use both the collar and a monthly oral Frontline tablet on Sophie. Living this far in the country a double dose of cure is fine by us particularly as we lost Digby to a deer tick.
I've seen lots of posts this week about the flea/tick collars. I'm glad that you've found a preventative that safely works for Sophie. Your post is a reminder that with spring very quickly approaching us in Virginia, that I need to get re-started on ours -- I take the dogs off everything from about December to now.
Thank-you for your kind words on the loss of Charlie, who truly was our family fellow.
Otto is prone to minor seizures, and the Seresto collar really ramped them up. I removed it after about 5 days. All flea/tick treatments seem to irritate him neurologically, so now he just gets a through flea inspection post walks (if he were a PON this would not do!) Osa takes Frontline chews on a schedule similar to Kim's. She thinks they are a treat! Sophie! You need a little paw spa to soak your paws in - warm water, aromatherapy. I wonder if dog aromatherapy would smell like steak or liver...no. Too stimulating.
*I meant tick inspection...
A brave new world.
Deer, ticks and dogs are not a happy combination. This year with the lcokdown the deer numbers have grown enormously !
We've ( touch wood ) had no problems with the Scalibor collars.
