The Express Train.

The highlight of the week has been the sighting of a moorhen on the village pond. Even better, this morning, 'The Font' has seen not one but  two moorhens paddling unconcernedly along . Although the shrubbery along the banks has been cut down by the German billionaires in a bout of 'improvement'  the moorhens have been resourceful. They seem to be nesting in an old drainage culvert that is safely out of the way of any feral cats and aggressive gardeners. For some reason the return of these village neighbours puts pandemic risk in perspective. A  smile inducing reminder that life adjusts to change.

Down by the canal Sophie spots a duck. I attach her lead. There is something ever so slightly 'edgy' about the PON mentality that makes it uncertain whether she will, or will not, live completely  in the moment and give chase.

The Bordeaux-Toulouse Express rushes by. For an eight year old PONette things don't get much more exciting than that ( duck chasing excluded ). If the number of faces at the windows are anything to go by the train is full. Parisians escaping the capital before a months lockdown is imposed tonight.

It's only been a couple of days since were at the canal but new varieties of wild flowers are bursting into bloom ...

.... everywhere.

It pours with rain. The only other person we see is a lady with a well behaved Labrador.  Sophie is very keen to see the Labrador but he's up and into the back of his mistresses car before she knows it. As they drive off he peers at her wistfully from the back window. Perhaps next week ?

The moorhens are back. Best news of the week!
Cheers, Gail (who received her first Covid jab (AZ) yesterday morning, along with Boris and six hundred and something thousand others in the UK. Just a very mild headache so far here...)

My goodness! I'd better keep far, far away from The Font when she's shopping! That furniture shop has gorgeous things, but when I did the currency conversion I nearly collapsed. But thank you for showing me, there are some gorgeous fabrics shown, and we're about to recover a couple of casual chairs.

I join Gail in celebrating the return of the moorhens! Very interesting to see the train full of Parisians, although it seems this exodus would somewhat defeat the purpose of the lockdown. Tomorrow the state of emergency in Tokyo will be lifted, just in time for the cherry blossom parties and, more importantly from the government's perspective, the launch of the Olympic torch relay. And still no vaccines in sight. But thank you for the link to the furniture shop site, which will keep me happily distracted from these concerns for a while.

I'm kicking myself for not ordering the wallpaper I want from Svenskt Tenn before Brexit. The solution now seems to be to order in instalments to avoid triggering the £139 customs duty threshold. Also a huge fan of Gocken Jobs designs. Looking forward to taking the car to Sweden for a shopping trip again. First dose AZ got nearly a month ago now in the group 7 (60-64) category. Husband should be done in the next few weeks in the 55-59 age group, as NHS Grampian says appointments are being organised now. Sophie does look as if she might plunge into the canal at any moment. That would be an awful lot of very wet dog.

Congratulation on getting the AZ vaccine. Here the date when we can get it actually seems to be receding !

Well done on getting the jab and minimal side effects !

Sweden is not cheap - but then the quality is good.

With Europe in lockdown all those hotels in central Tokyo are going to have to rely on domestic and Chinese tourists !

I, too, join in the celebration to welcome the moorhens back, and how clever of them to find somewhere safe from cats, destructive gardeners - and an inquisitive PON!
Have enjoyed browsing through the Svensk Tenn website (not one I've been aware of before) and love the fabrics, particularly.
Not much further forwards with vaccine here, they are still doing the mid 80 years old. Though now Europe is back to using the AZ vaccine again, I have hopes of one sometime this year!

I too adore the ST design and fabrics - dreamland for me, but dreams are okay to have. As said elsewhere, welcome distraction. As will be the rugby later today. Am thrilled to read of the return of the moorhens! YAM xx
