More mist than fog.

Grey and decidedly nippy. There is freezing fog but it's more mist than fog. This has been the dampest winter in the twelve and a half  years we've been here.

The dead leaves that were covering the surface of the zinc bath have sunk to the bottom. As a consequence the water has taken on a rather unappealing brown tint. In the sheepdog scheme of things this makes it all the more delicious.

I'm not saying the pandemic is driving us stir crazy but every evening before dinner we've taken to printing off a restaurant menu , reading it aloud and imagining that we're somewhere exotic. On Saturday we pretend dined in Berlin.  Last night we moved on to Baltimore :http://almacocinalatina.com/menu-1 .  You can be sure that American menus always have ingredients that neither of us have ever heard of. This either means Americans are more knowledgeable or that menu writing has blossomed as universities churn out liberal arts grads with a Masters in creative writing. Having time to explore a menu at leisure is interesting. It's amazing how many recommended restaurants we've crossed off our 'to visit list' and how many we've added. Some menus cry out to the ' I've been on a plane for 10 hours ' traveller. Others consider themselves to be too grand.

An English colleague who lived in Aberdeen a while before moving back to London was given to complaining that "all they have to discuss up there is whether it's fog, low cloud, haar, drizzle or Scotch mist". And that was before the pandemic....
Oh, and the answer is no.
Cheers, Gail.

That Baltimore menu is a doozy - it would actually be quite challenging to virtually dine there. I probably would not pay $20 for the Igloo Experience, even with the Whirley Pop Kettle Corn thrown in, but I can appreciate their efforts. Your weather really has been rather shocking this week, although it does seem to suit Sophie.

We have to accept that it's winter in the northern hemisphere, and we do get miserable days! Be thankful we're not getting the weather they're having in the US and Canada! The sun may have made regular appearances here, but it's been unusually cold. Most mornings +7ºC or there abouts, and rarely climbed out of single figures - half what it normally is at this time of year. I live in the hills above town and as I drive down hill the car thermometer creeps up a few degrees!
No, I wouldn't pay for the Igloo Experience either. During the pandemic I've seen clear plastic domes available for outdoor eating at various hotels and restaurants in the UK - they look more appealing.

A good morning for a dog walk (isn't every morning?) The Central American influence is the challenge on the Baltimore Menu. Founding Farmers is quite good, and expect the additional restaurants to the collection are also, And no paying extra for the iglo. I suspect they are limited in the number of those they have room for, and if people are willing to pay, why not charge

Currently it's minus 5 degrees Fahrenheit outside my front door (-20 C) so I'll take a wide pass on the Igloo experience. However, should I feel so inclined a bit later in the day, I could whip up some discount store Jiffy Pop, grab a bottle of single malt and step out onto the back deck. Not elegant but it would save me the twenty bucks. Please tell the Font I find the Peony paper flower quite charming.

Love your comment about American universities churning out liberal arts grads with a Masters in Creative Writing...now these graduates want their student loans excused. South/Central American cuisine has become popular in the US restaurant scene. It's a learning experience to understand what will be on your plate.
