An angel.

This is one of those ' quart of energy in a pint sized pot ' type mornings. Sophie starts her day at five thirty by hurtling out of the front door in search of trouble. 'Trouble' this morning takes the form of the black and white C-A-T asleep on the log pile in the barn. Our day starts in an audible fashion. How the villagers must love us !

The Los Angeles folk on the morning Zoom call have little idea of living with a lively PONette. They apologetically comment on how early it must be in France. Little do they know we've been up for half an hour already and have dealt with C-A-T-S and checked the village donkeys, goats and geese. Today we deal with the collapse of the government in Estonia and why the British Prime Minister will be delighted to have a vote of no confidence sooner rather than later. Ukraine once again casts a long pall. The super smart  Los Angeleans are more and more focused on who will be the GOP candidate for the '24 Presidentials.

Sophie , who has been almost patiently waiting under my desk, is then loaded into the back of the car and driven off to pick up the breakfast croissants. It's a national holiday in France and out local baker is closed. Instead we head off into the small market town. The young woman who is keen to try out her English is on the early shift in the bakery. Sophie gets given a small mendiant. Sophie decides that the young mendiant dispensing woman is an angel.

This mornings collect the croissant music . A very European genre of men singing and looking happy on the edge of cliffs : https://youtu.be/mMAx4Syqg40?t=133

Very LA style snacking  :https://eatglonuts.com/

‘Trouble’ - what a great name for your resident wood-pile sleeping black-and-white cat! ;)

I got through the entire video without having any idea what a "glonut" might be. However, LA food is not something to take lightly, so I think I would like to try one.

The girl at the bakers is truly an angel in any dog's eyes - especially Sophie's!
Love the last picture of Sophie keeping an eye on that mendiant and the curly croissant ends - who knows when a stray bird may take a fancy to it!

I think that's a financier. A mendiant is a chocolate disk covered with nuts and dried fruits, and it gets its name from the four religious orders that begged. The fruits and nuts are supposed to correspond to the colors of their robes.
A financier has almond flour and the shape is supposed to look like a gold ingot.
One of my favorites is savarin, which is like a baba au rhum, but the reason I love it is that it's named after a lawyer-cum-food-critic who was so famous for his food side gig that he has not only a dessert but also a cheese named after him. Is that a goal in life or what?

Taste of France - You ar 100% right - it is a financier. This is the problem with writing a blog before seven in the morning !

Who wouldn't want to give the sweet little girl a treat? Not sure the GOP has a clue about the next election. Scary!

To Lisa in Tokyo...a glonut is a sugar-free, gluten-free, so healthy for you donut that should make you glow from within. Wonder what kind of rating Angus and Sophie would give it!

Angels take many forms, it seems. "Terre Corse tant aimee" with two of my favorite singers! Merci infiniment. A great way to take a break here in SE USA (where a glonut would be regarded with hostility).

I’ve wanted to visit Corsica for ages (aka way before pandemic). So beautiful! Seems that black clothing is required 🤣. The music video was great.

Sugar-free, gluten-free...Doesn't this defeat the whole donut concept, I wonder?
