Detergenty

Yesterday saw the start of the Queens Jubilee celebrations in the United Kingdom. In St.Andrews there was a service in the town kirk attended by the Provost and the town councillors. Tricorn hats ,gold chains of office and 1990's era mayoral limousines ( bought when local governments had money to spend on such things and never replaced )  much in evidence.  At dinner time 'The Font' goes to a restaurant where the outside tables are each adorned with a small union flag. Apart from that you wouldn't know four days of celebrations are about to start. In England the celebrations may well be more effusive.

Sophie and Angus are in high summer mode. We're up at five fifteen. To be more precise Sophie is up at five fifteen and a bleary eyed Angus follows some time later. The lawn is already looking parched. Will there be any grass left by August ? We're overdue a thunderstorm.

'The Font' returns from the cool of Scotland later today. Sophie will once again find the kitchen to be a place where 'miracles' occur. For the family diva the return can't come a moment too soon.

There must be a broken water pipe somewhere behind the Anger Management Mans garden wall. Water is pouring out of a drain and into the zinc bath. Angus can't be sure but the water has a less than healthy 'detergenty' look to it. Sophie is told to stay well clear. She looks at the gurgling torrent with more than a hint of suspicion.

Here in Aberdeen, we don't tend to do effusive celebrations but, walking Nobby from Ferryhill and round the city's posher West End I did see a quite a few Union flags flying in gardens and on churches etc. and that is a rare enough sight in Scotland these days.
So glad Sophie's flock will soon be reunited (UK airport chaos permitting) and the head chef back in place!

So, gourmet dining will return to the ROF! In the second photo Sophie might almost be asking (pleading?) "Is she really coming back today?"
Last night I planned to watch the start of the Jubilee celebrations on BBC 1, but lost interest very quickly. Whatever happened to the good old days when the Royal reporters knew how to present a programme? There will be some local ex-pat celebrations in town, but nothing I'd care to join in with.
